Alaska Senate Race Becomes Most Expensive Campaign In State's History

By MARIA L. LA GANGA

With $39 million in outside spending to sway half a million voters, Alaska Senate race is priciest per capita

Both candidates in Alaska Senate contest condemn outside money, but it keeps rolling in

The local official introducing the candidate eventually got around to the point — Sen. Mark Begich, standing up for Alaskans, get out the vote — but first he lit into the Koch brothers and what he described as money's power to warp politics.

"They're literally spending hundreds of millions of dollars to defeat Sen. Begich," fumed Bill Wielechowski, a state senator who represents a swath of Alaska's biggest city. "Why do these billionaires want to defeat Sen. Begich? They want to fundamentally change our government. ... Don't be mistaken. The fate of the U.S. Senate is in your hands."

Alaskans wanting to be free men and women? Who’d have thought.

Begich has received 22.5 million in "outside money" while Sullivan has received 16.7 million in "outside money". Anybody know what Obama's little girlyman, Begich, is whining about?

"I'm from New Jersey, I don't know what he's talking about." - The guy on the TV ad.

Begich has a real doosey of a record that goes clear back to 1996 with photo radar. Doesn't have a chance with his 97% support of Big Ears.

The dems are really trying to get out the dem vote anyway.

“Most Expensive in State’s History” seems only to be a problem if the Democrat is coming out on the short end of the stick.

I just watched a re-run of Thurdsay’s Alaska Senatorial Debate on C-Span. OMG, I hate to say this, but Dan Sullivan was horrible. His answers were very scripted and very “vanilla”. It was pitiful. I hope he wins just to help get the demon-possessed Harry Reid out as SML, but Sullvan dude needs to get some fire in his belly.

“Both candidates [anywhere in the USA] condemn outside money, but it keeps rolling in...”

That’s how Wisconsin got STUCK with Tammy Baldwin...and now she is ALL OF AMERICA’S problem.

But, don’t worry. She’s a fat, lazy lesbian ridin’ the Washington Gravy Train. You won’t hear a peep out of her from this point on...but YOU’RE STILL PAYING FOR HER!

Slick Willie was stumping for Mary Burke on MY TV tonight. Disgusting. You THINK DC isn’t meddling in STATE BUSINESS? Well, you’d be wrong son. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I haven’t heard complaints about all the money the Rats are spending in NC, but that’s because Hagan is ahead (if only slightly).

I would suspect that if Begich wins, the Dems will keep their Senate control.
