St Louis Mayor Predicts 'Widespread Civil Disobedience' In Ferguson Francis Slay makes stark assessment as grand jury considers whether to charge police officer for killing Michael Brown
Jon Swaine 18 November 2014 The mayor of St Louis has said he expects widespread civil disobedience following the announcement on whether a white police officer will face criminal charges for killing an unarmed black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri.
Giving one of the starkest warnings so far by a regional official about what they expect to follow a grand jury decision that is anticipated in the coming days, Francis Slay also said he had asked for 400 national guard troops to protect his city during potential unrest.
We will use them to prevent random acts of violence, property destruction, looting or other criminal activity, Slay said in a letter to the chairwoman of the public safety committee on the the citys board of aldermen.
Slay said that guardsmen who have been authorised to assist in policing protests in the region after governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency on Monday would be posted at 45 sites to protect residents and businesses. They would work in two 12-hour shifts, he said.
About 1,000 officers have also been training to police any protests in the region under a unified command of chiefs from St Louis metropolitan police, St Louis county police and the Missouri state highway patrol.

“Widespread Civil Disobedience”
Wish he meant that in a Ghandi sort of way, but I think we’re going to see something closer to 1992 Los Angeles.
Hope I’m wrong, though.
Because the media is watching, they will shoot pillows at any miscreant and watch as these asshats loot every store within a 50 mile radius.
If the lynch mob doesn’t get it’s way and then rampages... I don’t care what happens to a single one of them.
FNC reported earlier that the Ferguson’s county Grand Jury only rules on Thursdays. So it must be this Thursday.
Idiot Nixon played a key role in promoting the violence, which he now sees ending his political career.
So... that would be today.
If true, they won’t be giving a 48 hour notice.
Right now, actually.
It’ll be warmer next Thursday, better rioting weather.
Do it now, it’ll fizzle out quicker.
If I was Governor, I would put it out that all looters will be shot on sight. Enough of the ferals and gimmedats thinking they run the asylum. Guess that’s why I would never get elected :)
I hope they are well armed with plebty of amunition with orders to shoot to kill!!!
Remind me to never step on your lawn!
The window now dies, if indeed there is a 48-hr pre-notice agreement.
So, it will be next Tuesday at midnight? Right before Thanksgiving? Not good. Travelers trying to get everywhere.
The next Tuesday? Maybe better. Make the protesters burn out, spend out their financed passion. The spark will dwindle.
Obama should personally be responsible for the cost. After all...these protestors are his sons.
Didn’t Barry advise them the other day to “stay the course” or some similar C.O. stuff?
Hang in there, guys! You can turn a thing sadly prosaic into something really tragic.
I wonder how many of those rioters and looters in Ferguson have even heard of Ghandi, or read a page of Thoreau?
Regards,
Now THAT’s useful info re
Thursdays
.Will save me time checking FR and Drudge every few minutes during the day
.
Well, they could do it late next week in time for black friday. Of course we can’t call it “black” friday ‘cause that would be racist.
CC
Apparently we only have to check every Tuesday what with the 48-hr agreement the protesters have ironed out.
“Apparently we only have to check every Tuesday what with the 48-hr agreement the protesters have ironed out.”
depends on whose clock you are using!
That is true!
So it looks like Dec 2 at 8am. Gonna be a big rack at the Drury Hotel in Ferguson. 150K.
