UKRAINE: American military expert considers paratroopers of Zhytomyr to be the best in the world

The 95th independent airborne brigade, led by their commander, Mykhailo Zabrodskyi, conducted the longest raid in military history. This is the conclusion of American military expert, Phillip Karber, during an interview with tsn.ua.

“Mykhailo Zabrodskyi and his 95th brigade became a part of military history at the beginning of August. They broke through the separatists’ line of defence, completed a march all the way to Mariupol, and made their way back along the border, destroying several Russian artillery battalions along the way, collecting for themselves their weapons and equipment. These battalions were located on the Ukrainian side of the border. They passed Russian tanks all the way to Luhansk itself, and then they returned to Sloviansk. That’s what makes this raid the longest raid in the military history of the world of an armed formation,” explained Karber.

This operation was undertaken two weeks before the Russian advance. The military expert estimates that if the raid had occurred somewhat later, it would have had the effect of destroying the Russians further behind the lines. Then the outcome of the war could have been much different. None of this is their fault, however. For Phillip Karber, the 95th brigade is the best brigade of its kind in the entire world. “In my opinion, they are the most successful Ukrainian brigade, even having served with the American servicemen in the near East,” he said.

As reported earlier, the members of the 95th brigade returned from the Donetsk airport without suffering any losses.

If only the Ukrainians had more modern equipment: jets, tanks, rockets, communications equipment, etc. They have a good fighting spirit. They’re just stuck fighting Russia all by themselves while the world tries not to notice too much.

I have been to Ukraine a couple times over the last few years and have some distant relatives still there (Grandmother emigrated to the United States after WWII with American Grandfather). They are a tough lot, if they stay away from alcohol. A very Greek culture with playgrounds full of exercise equipment. America / Europe needs to help Ukraine free itself from Moscow’s sphere of influence...

No doubt they are good. Years ago, the US Army was able to accept and even commission some soldiers from then Eastern block countries like Finland and Czechoslovakia under the Lodge Act. I recall the names of two Fins who were legends in their country for fighting the Russians. Pavlo or Paavo Kiernan and Larry Thorne were men who anyone who ever served with them was extremely impressed. Thorne won his nations Medal of Honor in WWII. He was a fantastic skier and so were his troops. He was one of MACVSOG’s first losses in Laos. Kiernan was an O-6 Colonel in 67 when I was fortunate to meet and talk to him. Thorne is well worth looking up.
