What is really disheartening is that so many libs leave Cali for lower cost places like Colorado (like my idiot niece) and Cali gets EVEN MORE LIBERAL.

The schools and Media will brainwash anyone - given enough time and misplaced trust.

Unfortunately people esteem the Public School system as being some bastion of virtue that we just need to keep feeding money (was there ever a single Education Bond in California that did not pass?), and unfortunately people trusted the Newspapers and talking heads to provide news and not DNC position points.

We are kind of hosed here in California.

If there’s one State that should put on a pedestal & shown how bad progressiveness has become & getting worse is California. Wouldn’t touch it, let entropy take over!

Conservatives move to where they’re wanted. Liberals move to where they’re not wanted.

Also, Democrats encouraged a takeover by immigrants. Southern California has been purged of most native Americans.

1) Unrestrained immigration
2) Worship and reverence for a hippie/slacker/hipster culture
3) Regulations that drove anyone with a stake in the free market economy to pick-up and move to another state.

California is now the communists capitol of America. They are so deeply committed in promoting the illegals for more voters. California is the garbage pile of crap heads in Hollywood. There is no hope for this State so long as the communist Democrats have control.

For California Republicans to recover in 2016 or 2020, they will need either a terrifically popular nominee with a strong reform message, or to be rescued by history in the form of a debacle that happens on the Democrats’ watch. Or maybe both.

Or an earthquake.

Seriously, this is an excellent article. All I know is, it took only 25 years to turn California from heaven to a hellhole politically. While Dems are in power, they are bankrupting the state, with nationwide implications. The massive block of 55 electoral votes, when combined with the electoral votes of the liberal Northeast and Midwest, create a formidable challenge to any GOP Presidential candidate.

Perhaps we may see the break-up of CA into a few smaller states.

His greatest political master-stroke was in understanding that the Democrats were now weakest where they had once been strongest — the blue collar workers.

Reagan's master stroke may still be viable, though, in 2016. There are many blue collar Dems who are on the losing side of the Obama economy right now, and they need to be cultivated by the GOP.

Running a candidate for governor who is pro-amnesty, pro-homosexual marriage, pro-abortion, and anti-second amendment is a good start. /s

It may be blue, but conservatives still outnumber liberals by a small amount. Most likely the California GOP is a sellout like it is at the federal level, ignoring conservatives and anyone else calling for smaller government.

That is as stupid an article on California politics as the ones from Salon.
From the Eighties on Conservatives left the state for lower taxed and more socially conservative pasture.

The concept of “tax flight” carried out on a large scale.

When you combine Union and State and Press it's hard to get a word in edge-wise.

Oh, that and abject cowardice on the part of GOP.

And, CA has always been of the small (l)ibertarian bent...like most of the Western States.

I know a bunch of folks will argue that, but I say come see for yourself. Fiscal Conservatives are everywhere. Social Conservatives are a small portion of the population.

There are many who say that cannot be...that Conservative is Conservative.

But if you put up a real fiscal conservative they will carry the State in all statewide elections...but if you put up a Social Conservative, they will lose miserably in any/all statewide elections.

When Proposition 187 was on the ballot, its opponents were out on street corners, freeway bridges, etc. waving Mexican flags. That tactic backfired. Two of my loved ones, lifelong hard-core liberal Democrats, voted for 187 because of the Mexican flags.
