Behold, atheists' new Ten Commandments
CNN ^ | December 20, 2014 | Daniel Burke

What if, instead of climbing Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God, Moses had turned to the Israelites and asked: Hey, what do you guys think we should do? Considering the Hebrews' bad behavior in the Bible, what with the coveting of neighbors' wives and murdering their own brothers, that might have been a disastrous idea. But in our own more enlightened age, we're perfectly capable of crowdsourcing our own commandments -- or, at least, that's what a new project would have us believe.

I am not philosopher or theologian but I find an inherent contradiction between items (6), (7), (8) compared to (9). If (9) is true then that means items (6) - (8) do not have to be followed. If I believe the right way to live is to lie, and cheat to get what I want then why it is binding I have to care about others. I bet a real atheist like Nietzsche would pat these milquetoast atheists on the head and ask them to try again. For these atheists they might not be believers but they have absorbed so much of the Judeo-Christian ethic they can't avoid incorporating them into their own version of the 10- Commandments.

If someone feels that they are inherently, or unconditionally more intelligent and rational than others, for an incredibly fallacious set of reasons, then what would you expect?

How cute, the atheists acknowledged God in their own 10 commandments.

Leftists, by all of their brand names, ALWAYS reject God and His perfect wisdom.

Here are the “Ten Non-Commandments”:

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.

2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.

3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.

4. Every person has the right to control of their body.

5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.

6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.

7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.

9. There is no one right way to live.

10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Isn’t the whole point of being atheist not having rules?

This list is promoting nothing but a morality-free lifestyle. This is disgusting. Without a moral compass, we are all adrift in the sea.

Number 7 sums it up for me. Because they don’t celebrate Christmas, nobody else is permitted to openly celebrate. Yeah, like they’re showing any respect for my beliefs.

But in our own more enlightened age

The reporter loses me at this point. With respect for atheists, most especially for those who at least have "wrestled" with the possibility of an Open Universe, a personal God, most of the clowns who want it known that they are atheists are motivated by rationalized personal resentments and other petty patterns of egoism. It takes more faith to follow these non-commandments, while walking and acting in the Universe within an atheist model, than it does to simply "be a Hindu" like your neighbors. I respect that, but not the contradiction that arises from disturbing the peace of neighbors under the guise of love.

There's a world of difference between the integral atheist and the popularizer of what is, in fact, just another form of idolatry.

#7 sounds like HELLry’s comment of having empathy for islamic/satanic terrorists and understanding their perspective.

If one wanted a simple set of rules for all, the golden rule would be a good start. Add to the that the basic premise of libertarianism, i.e., “Initiate no force against another” and then add the obvious caution that one’s freedom cannot compromise the freedom of another and you’ve got about 95% of the necessary law.

It’s the other 5% that feeds the lawyers and the judiciary so well

Behold, atheists

It matters little because God doesn't believe in atheist.

"Isn’t the whole point of being atheist not having rules?"

Absolutely. If one is an atheist there are only two commandments:

1. Do as thou wilt; and
2. Avoid negitive consequences. (ie. don't get caught)

The vast majority of the world’s religions are crowdsourced; atheists are playing the me-too game (similar to vegans and their tofurky).

Even the true God-given faiths have accumulated a lot of crowdsourced crud over the ages. It’s nothing to brag about. The Bible teaches that man’s reasoning ability was corrupted by the Fall as much as his moral compass was, so just about anything man has to add to God’s perfect wisdom is going to be rubbish by comparison.

“nothing specifically about murder, stealing or adultery, although there is a version of the Golden Rule, which presumably would cover those crimes.”

I guess murder-suicide is OK.

Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Why? Seriously -- why? If there is no God, why do they care about any of the things on their list? If you are stronger than anyone around you, why not just take from everyone else? If you see a woman you think is good looking, why not rape her? There is no reason to live a "good" life if you can be happier living a "bad" life if there is no external morality in the universe.

Its like Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors." The only thing that stops someone from murdering a person who is causing them trouble is their own feelings of guilt, and eventually those feelings subside.

If you truly are an atheist, this list is complete BS. Its a vestige and legacy of humanism, which in and of itself is simply an attempt to reconcile their Godless world to Christian morality. Atheists don't want to face the reality that without external morality --without God -- there is no reason to adhere to anything on their list.

The latest “rule” that seems to be popping up is “Do unto others before they do unto you.”

The only thing atheists - in my experience - don’t want to talk about is the nature of the universe, which requires a little science and, I believe comes to God. They scatter like buckshot.
