It is always inappropriate for the police to turn their backs on their mayor. The appropriate response would have been for the voters to elect a mayor who did not richly deserve to have the police turn their backs on him. Since the voters failed so shockingly in their duty, and since the cop-hating communist lacked the decency to stay away from a funeral that everyone knew he was inwardly celebrating, turning their backs on that evil socialist was the best and least inappropriate option available to the NYPD.
