It’s not the “office” attending the funeral, it’s the steaming turd occupying the “office”. That phrase is a meaningless ploy to maintain some semblance of respect for asshole office holders who deserve no respect and who show no respect for the responsibilities of the office they hold.

I respectfully submit that when the office is so profoundly diminished by a small, mean, self-serving, and corrupt person, then the office itself no longer commands respect. It can only be restored to greatness by a great person.
