I Want a President Who Loves America
American Thinker ^ | December 30, 2014 | Christopher Chantrill

Posted on 12/30/2014 7:50:14 PM PST by Col. Bob

I first fell in love with America 49 years ago. I flew from the UK to Denver visit my parents in Christmas 1965, and it was love at first sight. I fell in love with America, the land; I fell in love with America, the people. And I fell in love with the American way of life, the unconsciously optimistic approach to life and work and the future. I applied for citizenship as soon as possible and my naturalization certificate is dated January 3, 1975.

So, in just about a week, I'll have been a U.S. citizen for 40 years. And do you know what this naturalized U.S. citizen would like more than anything in the world?

I would like to elect in 2016 a president who loves America with all his heart.

I don't mean that the president should be a Polly-Anna and pretend that everything is hunky-dory in America. I just want a president that wants to fix America because he loves America.

Unlike our liberal friends and their poster boy, President Barack Obama.

The problem with our liberal friends is that they think that they are too evolved to descend to the celebration of a nation-state and its flummeries of patriotism and flags and Pledges of Allegiance. And so thinks President Obama. Liberals are globalists; they are cosmopolitans. And so is President Obama. They believe in supranational governance

We are at a crossroad. I fear, if we go down the path to Obama's "fundamental change," we may never get back to the freedoms and individual liberty we have thus far enjoyed.

Read the comments to this article. They are very instructive and illuminating.

I’ve got two people who fit that bill perfectly:

1. Senator Ted Cruz

2. Governor Sarah Palin

Take your pick, they are head and shoulders above any other possible POTUS candidate.

I can’t imagine anyone “fundamentally transforming” something they love...

It’s been awhile, hasn’t it. I fear we will never see another Reagan.

Right now I'd settle for a President who doesn't despise me and mine.

“I fear we will never see another Reagan.”

And if he’s watching from the other side, he is mad as hell. Amusing tagline by the way.

Either of these two conservatives (or both on the same ticket) would get my vote.

But as I've gotten older, more cynical, and seasoned to the ways of the world outside my own head and heart, I have come to realize that who we are going to have foisted on us for our candidate, is not the Palins or Cruzes who we want, but the candidates the big money is behind. The people whose names average folks don't recognize. The people with the power that you and I don't have and can't imagine. We get who they want, not who we want. Right or wrong, that's the way the world has always turned. The rich and powerful are the ones with the say. The rest of us are just along for the ride.

This is why we get the McConnells and the Boehners who don't do what the people in their party want. They are reporting to and answering to people more powerful than us. All the voters can do is to rearrange the chairs on the deck.

I fear we will never see another Reagan.

What if we all became Ronald Reagan? Wouldn't that put the libs teeth on edge?

Hundreds of thousands of Reagans. All over the world.

The author has put his finger on exactly the problem with 0bama, his administration, and progressives in general: they are convinced to a degree of religious fanaticism that (1) they have apprehended a set of universalist principles that are transcendent to nationalism; (2) that anything less is an obstruction to the "inevitable" progress of history toward some imagined better world, and; (3) that in order to reach the latter, the former must be derided, subverted, and destroyed, after which; (4) magic will happen. Progressivism is the faith of little children that a broken doll will give way to a new, better one. But first, the breaking.

A President imbued of this adolescent lunacy will act precisely as this one has: first, the breaking, and then the inception of collectivist nonsense that has a sterling, perfect, and unmistakable track record of failure. And then the blaming, and then the moping, and then the fervent hope that Mommy and Daddy can pick up the pieces. Only there's no Mommy and Daddy, we're all adults, and if you break it, it's gone. Great things end through little men and women unworthy of them.

Bill, I am copying out your statement (and discussing it with my husband later). You have a very fine mind. Thank-you for seeing beyond the daily headlines.

I like it. I guess there probably ARE a lot of little Ronald Reagans. We just need an inspiring leader to rise up and start a true grassroots movement. The Tea Party had a head of steam for a while but they kind of fizzled on the world scene. We need major momentum. All kinds of people raising up a great leader momentum. That seems to be what’s missing.

Got to have someone who’s almost annointed for the role. Could it be Cruz? Palin? Carson? Everyone has to get behind them in a big way. Stop all these little divisions and arguments and such. Get a big head of steam and ROLL. Unstoppable.

We are at a crossroad...

All I can say is that the upcoming generation, ( my grand children et alia ) have to be among the most spoiled and self absorbed ever. Not that I have any objection to that, It's just a simple fact. So I'm thinking, in political terms, that people had better ready themselves for a solid reactionary contingency.

Well, I don't know of course. How much of this will I live to see? Don't know.

Hi, Bill, this is Mr. Lulu.

You created a very well written and insightful post.

It has often been said that a second marriage is “the triumph of hope over experience.” The same can be said of Leftist thinking, writ large. The most mind-numbing stupidity of their thinking is this: What they’re advocating has all been tried before its NEVER WORKED! Yet, they persist.

I can understand how, in the absence of evidence, a Leftist could come up with a theory and believe it would work. What I can’t understand is how a Leftist can still believe that his theory would work when its already been tried... and failed... repeatedly... and even recently.

Unfortunately, we have done a very poor job in confronting people on the Left with these simple truths. As often as possible, we have to ask people on the Left “Can you give me an example of where what you’re advocating has worked?” After we do that, we have to be stone silent, and wait for the answer. Of course, there isn’t any. This silence is worth many lectures because at least is has a chance of beginning an adult dialogue... about what works.

If we want to be successful, we have to start with first principles, and in a kind, non-confrontational way just ask Leftist simple questions. When I have done this, usually after an extended silence, the usual result is that the Leftist will change the subject, start yelling, engage in pejoratives, etc. It makes them very uncomfortable. Don’t take the bait. Just ask again, gently. Maybe this method will start them thinking.

On a slightly different topic, I believe we need to have a dialogue about the best way to change Leftists into Conservatives. It’s a really important topic.
