The White House delayed the mandate twice, moves that Republicans lambasted as political ploys to delay enforcement until after the midterm elections.
The issue will be thrust back into the public eye in the coming weeks, when congressional Republicans taking control of both chambers try to force changes to the rule.
GOP lawmakers say leadership will hold votes to change the mandates definition of full-time work from 30 hours to 40 hours, as even some Democrats fear the nontraditional definition is hurting the workforce.
Republican lawmakers have coined a phrase, the 29ers, to describe people whose hours were cut because they were suddenly considered full-time workers eligible for health insurance.

Obama hates prosperity.
This 30/40 hour definition of full-time employment has an interesting aspect.
From the Dem point of view, defining fulltime as 30 hours was supposed to increase the number of workers that would get insurance paid for by their employers. This is a typical Dem view, of a piece with static tax and regulation scoring, in that it assumes that regulation doesn’t affect behavior. They think, “Who could have imagined that the effect of defining full-time as 30 hours would have been to shrink employment by motivating companies to cut hours?” They thought everyone’s hours would remain the same.
Similarly, while it makes sense to have O-care exempt smaller companies who can’t afford it, what Dem would have considered that a 50-employee thresh-hold would simply motivate many firms to stay at 49 employees when they would otherwise grow? Anyone else could see that hiring that 50th and 51st employee meant that the marginal value of that employee was negative, because it mandated increased insurance costs for ALL of the employees.
So, about the current move to re-define fulltime back to 40 hours: It’s shuffling chairs on the deck of the Titanic. Yes, it recognizes the problem that employers have reacted by cutting hours, but it doesn’t fix the myriad other problems with the law. We need someone with the ‘nads to push for a complete do-over. It must be repealed.

My thought is different. The goal was to mimic France and do it better. The goal is a universal 30 hour week for everybody.
An American 30 hour week is more progressive than a French 35 hour week, especially after wages are increased to the Living level
Boner et.al. should not be trying to get rid of the mandate! They should be defunding the whole damned thing!

How about we change the definition of ‘full time work’ to 80 hours per week? Then most everyone would NOT be eligible for healthcare via their employer, and everyone would be subsidized and have totally free health care.
Yep, that ought to work.(/s)
Definitely repealed and kicked to the curb with a promise that the medical community will scale back their costs to pre-Obamacare prices because it cause medical costs to skyrocket.

Let it come its close to Hillary Care
My thought was that they thought people would reduce hours and hire more thereby fudging the employment numbers. Then they could say, "Look, the ACA has helped increase employment. More Americans are working because of "free" healthcare."
35 hours good, 30 hours better.
That’s an interesting way of looking at it, which hadn’t occurred to me.
But, Obama’s real core supporters would prefer no work at all. Their optimum workweek number is ZERO.
yep.....
The follow up currently under way is to inflate wages so thet pay for 30 hours is the same as it was for 40
The wage inflation is absolutely required to induce the general inflation necessary to inflate away the $17 trillion debt.
Looks like unemployment numbers are going to increase significantly as small employers reduce their staff OR, create more part time jobs.

A major part of the problem is the reporting of numbers. I have no idea what the actual situation is because the numbers are bogus
Where I live I cannot see the reality of less hours or no hours. I think the real bad problems must exist in the large cities, especially the northern cities.
Bottom line, we don’t really know the dimensions of the current unemployment, partial employment or closed businesses or reduced production. The propagandists lie and obfuscate the treacherous tyrant’s message
First they should ensure it is enforced to the letter; getting rid of all the illegal exemptions and delayed implementation. After the hurt truly settles in, then they should go about dumping/de-funding it.
zerocare is funded through Sep 30, 2015..
Well until the New Year it wasn't possible. Didn't have the votes in the Senate, now I'm wondering if they will use the same rule that put Obamacare in, in the first place. Will they use budget reconciliation in order to undo it? Will they still get the 51 votes necessary to do it?
Is this new congress going to show they have a pair and eliminate form 8163 ( reporting proof of health insurance ) or are they going to sit there like little sheep enjoying their own premium government health care?
