James Lavigne had been mayor of Pearl River, La. for 24 years. He lost the last election and called an emergency meeting Wednesday to say goodbye.

Maybe he is a crook, maybe not.

He was a mayor of a 2,500-resident town....maybe thirty miles from New Orleans. He handed out bonuses each year to city employees....although it was a violation of law by the way that he did it. In 2012, he bought a bass boat...for employees of city water to check out their sewer ‘lakes’.

I’d say he’s like forty-five percent of all city mayors of towns less than 5,000 residents....just a bit corrupt and begging for some audit.

Two thoughts, must be a dim as they are always nasty when they don’t get their way. Second, after 24 yrs I wonder if he realizes he doesn’t get to keep the SUV.

Another great American expressed the same sentiment somewhat more elegantly.

“I concluded my speech by telling them that I was done with politics for the present, and they might all go to hell, and I would go to Texas.”

Wow, power corrupts the weak-minded first? What a concept! And we’ve got local, state and federal governments full of these arrogant little Caesars. No wonder our country is so screwed-up. I see why they made it illegal to shoot the bastards, they predicted a bureaucracy-crippling turnover rate...

James Lavigne

74.
Mayor of Pearl River
Lifelong Democrat.
Mayor for past 23 years. Alderman for 12 years

This asshats other contributions

During a town meeting (2010) on a Tuesday, Mayor James Levigne angrily told a person that he would not answer his question and said: “I hope the Ku Kluxers get you, too.”

This guy is like a thousand other power hungry money-grubbers who go into politics to take taxpayer money and spread it around to his buddies, himself and anyone else he thinks “deserves” it or will vote his way. His philosophy is the foundation of the Democrat Party.

Great American? Crockett partied while his family went hungry. Lost the election and went to Texas. Indications are he was deserting the Alamo when he was killed.

Unfamiliar with your first allegation. Reference please.

As far as your last allegation, accounts vary, but I believe the preponderance of evidence is that he went down fighting. AFAIK, only one Mexican officer made such allegations.

BTW, one reason I think Davy was a great American is why he lost the election.

He vociferously opposed the immoral, illegal and unconstitutional removal of Indians from their treaty lands east of the Mississippi.

In a frontier district, this wasn’t very popular. But it was IMO highly honorable, especially since he knew it would probably lose him the election.
