The misleading interpretations of Islam as a cruel religion have sparked a fear of Islam in Malaysia, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Before this, there was no controversy over the teachings of Islam. But now, a lot of things and reactions have surfaced where people do things that may not be agreeable to the Muslims.
“They like to portray Islam as a cruel, unreasonable or unjust religion and that makes non-Muslims in Malaysia afraid of Islam, when the reality is, there is nothing to fear,” he added.
“For example, the verse that allowed Muslims to kill non-Muslims only touched on one event in the history of Islam. It does not mean we are told to kill other people,” he said.

Getting the daily feed of information from around the world, and especially where Islamic jihadists are already engaged, surely keeps that spark fanned up into an open conflagration.
Islamic jihadist terrorists KILL others, sometimes with little compunction and usually claiming they were “provoked” by “those who would mock Islam”. And those whom they do not kill directly, they sent into headlong flight from what was a stable and decent existence, to die later from desperate circumstances like disease and starvation.
Darned right the world fears Islam. If they cannot, or will not, reform the violent elements from the practice of their religion, then they are going to get blowback. Not everybody is convinced that Islam is The One True Path (or ANY path except death and destruction, for that matter), and there is plenty of valid criticism that shows that this may not be so. But Islam, by its very nature, does not accept criticism, constructive or otherwise. Their response is to kill the critic, or at least muffle and silence any potential criticism.
Freedom of speech is not their friend.
Wonder how many of the folks commenting here actually read the article.
Would be really nice if this guy gets some traction in his efforts. Hopefully (though I’m not holding my breath waiting) this message and others like it will spread, and the practitioners of the peaceful version of Islam will finally get pissed off enough with the others to do something to protect themselves. Like kill the bastards. I’m sure there are more peacefully-inclined Muslims in the world than those like the ISIS/ISIL-type Islamofacists. Wish they’d get the message that the rest of the world is sick of them, and sees the ones who don’t stop it from happening as being complicit.

I think you misunderstood what the guy (Dr. M)said. He said that injunction to kill non-muslims was appropriate and true for one time in history, and one group of non-muslims. He’s trying to teach the various ethnic groups in Malaysia, in their own languages, what the Koran says, and what it “really” means.
Hopefully, he’ll at least cut down on the local-grown terrorists there in Malaysia. I admit I can’t really see it going world-wide unless a lot more of their folks get involved and support what he’s saying.
Episcopalians should start beheadings...I mean they haven’t been in the news lately. They need better PR... :-)
