'Django Unchained' Producer on 'Selma' Oscar Snubs: Did Voters Have "Racial Fatigue"? (Guest Column)

I hate whining.

Ironically, when I was asked to write about the Oscar "whiteout," I was in a planning meeting for the NAACP Image Awards. For those who don't know, the NAACP created the Image Awards almost 50 years ago in response to the lack of recognition of black talent in front of and behind the camera in mainstream (white) awards shows. You'd think this show wouldn't be needed by now, but that's clearly not the case.

Racial fatigue? And if they did, so what? Are we supposed to somehow monitor that so we don’t become too sick of the propaganda?

Here’s an idea, maybe people are just sick and tired of seeing movies about slavery..enough already..I mean is that all that they can make, movies about slavery. If I want to know about slavery I can open up a history book I don’t have to go see a movie about it

For some reason, YT just doesn’t think about “race” 99% of the time. I guess that itself is “racist”, no?

Maybe it was a good movie but others were better. Has that ever occurred to them? Lots of good movies don’t win.

And regardless of race, every Oscar year is full of heartbreaking overlooks of worthy performances and filmmaking.

Most accurate comment in the whole piece.

Yeah, I’m fatigued. Fatigued from them parading do nothing clowns as if they’ve achieved something. Mark my words, once Zippy is out of office the revisionists are going to have a holiday in his honor.

That’s all they have..slavery, racism, blaa blaa blaa..that’s why the movie didn’t get nominated for best actor, etc..because people are sick of it. They have nothing else and in their heads, they think they are entitled to awards. No one is entitled to any award, you EARN it

I have a fresh bout of it every time I see a gratuitous negro inserted into an advertisement or TV show out of proportion to the population at large.

And do not get me started why all the criminals in the alarm commercials are white guys when even liberals know that is BS. Add in the refusal of "news" to cover or even ID negro attacks on whites.

I have had racial fatigue for decades, probably starting with the "reparations" crap.

I sure am sick and tired of race, race, RACE all the time!

But if these people were honest, they’d realize the problem with movies like Selma is that potential viewers don’t even have to watch it to know they’re going to be propagandized and lectured. ANd they just don’t want to pay for that.

If these movies were historically accurate and honest, even if the truth hurts, I believe more people would watch because they want to know what really happened. Trouble is nobody expects to get that kind of honesty in movies with a racial context.

I’m tired of movies and TV shows that constantly portray white heterosexual men as racist, sexist, homophobic bigots. I don’t care what it’s about, who is in it or what kind of stellar reviews it has received. Fatigued? I’m exhausted and I don’t give a rats ass what anyone else thinks about it.

Maybe the answer is even more obvious. Maybe there just weren’t any “black” films that were worth a crap.

A lot of us have “racial fatigue”, largely from it being shoved in our faces in every medium at every opportunity. And when a movie comes along that is all racial politics and the audience gives it a pass, maybe someone should take notice that market saturation has been reached. It probably doesn’t go a great deal deeper than that, and the people who are trying to twist it into irredeemable systemic racism on the part of the audience should probably note that the finger pointed that way leaves three pointing at themselves.

I think one of the best movies of the 2014 was the 100 foot journey. IT got nothing. Maybe, just maybe, Selma and the others weren’t as good.

I’m optimistic that the Oscars end up voting on the best of the best when it comes to the best movie.

Would that be the movie which had an actor state he loved playing the character because he gets to kill white folks?

These people who keep complaining about how they want more blacks getting their trophies should also complain about the NBA, NFL then about whites not getting their time on the team,
Miss black America.
BET
black colleges
black bike week
black this black that

Take the word out of black and insert white and it’s racist so wise up you left wing fools
