North Korea is a quietly desolate otherworld, at least as far as we outsiders can tell from the bits and pieces of untouched, unpropagandized media that occasionally leak out. The key to freeing it? It could be sneaking American media in. Wired talked to one of the men who does it, and his story is fascinating.

Dear God i hope he has American Sniper. It was the only movie to come out of Hollywood worth dying for.

A radio host, I think John Bachelor covered this a few nights ago. The smugglers meet without flashlights under a moonless night, exchange brief stories, and the courier heads off into the darkness with his contraband of memory sticks and other items into a country-sized concentration camp.

It’s a long article, but if you go to the Wired link above it explains how they are doing it.

Duh.

He’ll first have to get them computers to use the USB drives, and even before that get them electricity to power the computers.

Nice idea, just not practical.

Too few computers, and the few that are there are all gov. ones, closely managed and watched.......

I suspect the guy risking his life under Nork rifles swimming in the freezing river knows what he is doing and whether it is “practical”.

Duh yourself. I just said what movie was worth his life.
whether or not he can play it is his problem.

The people with computers are more savvy than the government. NK is producing a lot of hackers. They are capable of watching a movie without being detected.

A rare photo of a North Korean smuggler,

No shirt, no shoes, delivering USB drives to fellow countrymen who likely have no computers or DVD players......
