BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq’s government is investigating reports that the ancient archaeological site of Khorsabad in northern Iraq is the latest to be attacked by the Islamic State militant group.

Adel Shirshab, the country’s tourism and antiquities minister, told The Associated Press there are concerns the militants will remove artifacts and damage the site, located 15 kilometers (9 miles) northeast of Mosul. Saeed Mamuzini, a Kurdish official from Mosul, told the AP that the militants had already begun demolishing the Khorsabad site on Sunday, citing multiple witnesses.

Imagine if Obama and McCain had not created ISIS,

or if Clinton and Human had not transferred 20,000 MANPADs to al Qaeda,

or if Obama-the-Impostor was actually vetted with one single real reporter.

We may vividly recall the collective cow the liberal world had over some vandals carting off a few antiquities from the Bagdad museum during the Bush43 administration-although they were all later returned.

With the lonely exception of Wolf Blitzer, the utter destruction of priceless treasures has elicited little more than indiference from them

This is what gets to me - that the ISIS thugs may rape, burn and pillage endless numbers of Christians, Yazidis, Shi’ite Muslims, and other “dissident” Muslims, and never be held to account in the eyes of the world, but they start to destroy ancient artifacts, and NOW they are called out for the villains they are?

There is a mindset that must be utterly obliterated from the face of the earth. It would be vain to believe they would somehow cleanse the world of themselves. So maybe a little applied Darwinism?

Imagine if you will, if Iraq had chosen to extend the status of forces agreement. Now they can play the IS instead of the US.

Destroying ancient relics has usually spelled the end for those doing it, such as the Bamiyan statues in Afghanistan just before 9/11 and the demolition of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher that was the last straw before the Crusades.

I would go through Syria and northern Iraq and leave no sign animate or inanimate that Islam had ever been there. The 22nd Century should be made Islam-free.

Without boots on the ground, we don’t have the forward air controllers to identify targets. You need direct intelligence to accurately identify and target the bad guys.

Liberals only care about art, freedom of speech, freedom from a survaylance state, government oppression etc, when there is someone in the White House with a little R next to his name.

“What happened to the 400 US Marine trainers of Iraqi soldiers surrounded on a base by ISIS a few weeks ago”

The vaunted ISIS shock troops never somehow got around to attacking them,,, funny how that works.

Yeah, right? Where are all those tweedy, oh-so-elitist Leftie college professors and archaeologists who think conservatives are living relatives of neanderthals to raise a stink about this? It’s their bread and butter that’s being destroyed here. No more archaeological digs, no more archaeology chairs in universities and no more grant money to go to digs.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Islamic State militants continued their campaign targeting cultural heritage sites in territories they control in northern Iraq, looting and damaging the ancient city of Hatra just one day after bulldozing the historic city of Nimrud, according to Iraqi government officials and local residents.
