During his latest trip to Iowa, Jeb Bush worked to drum up support for a potential run for president. His struggle to win over the conservative grassroots of the GOP, however, was shown yet again in an op-ed in the Washington Post, in which he attempted to turn both the Common Core standards initiative and a potential reauthorization of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) into strongholds of federalism.

The states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for intrastate schooling purposes. This means that the fed have no constitutional authority to establishing testing standards with respect to federal programs like Common Core and No Child Left Behind. So if Jeb really wants to promote these programs within in the framework of the Constitution, then this is what he must do.

Jeb must work with Congress to propose an education amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify the amendement then the feds will have the power to implement these programs in the states and Jeb will be a hero.

It's in the family. I walked out of a Republican meeting in MA for educators hosted by George 1's Secretary of Education. He spoke about Education 2000 and "a thousand points of light" and federal government initiatives to have public school education which prepared students for technology. It was used to choose winners in the developing technology industries.

The Bushes have always believed government knows best and their friends should do very well. Jeb just isn't as good at the "aw shucks" routine.

Jebster cannot win the general election, but the RNC are experts at nominating the candidate least liked by their voters.

They don’t care if he loses in November as long as we can’t elect a President who will stop the invasion.

It’s imperative that GOP voters shun Jebster everywhere he shows up.

Let them know in any way you can that they may still have big money donors but they will not have voters.

The worst thing we can do is signal we will hold our noses once again for an unacceptable candidate.
