AP sues State Department, seeking access to Clinton records

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Associated Press filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the State Department to force the release of email correspondence and government documents from Hillary Rodham Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

The legal action comes after repeated requests filed under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act have gone unfulfilled. They include one request AP made five years ago and others pending since the summer of 2013.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, comes a day after Clinton broke her silence about her use of a private email account while secretary of state. The FOIA requests and lawsuit seek materials related to her public and private calendars, correspondence involving longtime aides likely to play key roles in her expected campaign for president, and Clinton-related emails about the Osama bin Laden raid and National Security Agency surveillance practices.

"After careful deliberation and exhausting our other options, The Associated Press is taking the necessary legal steps to gain access to these important documents, which will shed light on actions by the State Department and former Secretary Clinton, a presumptive 2016 presidential candidate, during some of the most significant issues of our time," said Karen Kaiser, AP's general counsel.

"The press is a proxy for the people, and AP will continue its pursuit of vital information that's in the public interest through this action and future open records requests," she said.

State Department spokesman Alec Gerlach declined to comment. He had previously cited the department's heavy annual load of FOIA requests — 19,000 last year — in saying that the department "does its best to meet its FOIA responsibilities." He said the department takes requests "first in, first out," but noted that timing depends on "the complexity of the request."

Privately, they didn’t like it one damned bit. They smell blood in the water now - and it is hers. This won’t go away.

I'm skeptical. I suspect that by now Hillary has had enough time to make sure the only emails remaining are ones that will make her look good. She may have told AP "ok, pretend you're fighting to get the documents... then when you do you can write about how wonderful I was as SOS and you can publish all sorts of flattering documents you uncover".

This may not be the feeding frenzy that you think it is.

There are two groups of emails from Clinton that have been released.

There are the 850 pages that were released to the Benghazi committee while Clinton was still in office.

Then there are the 55,000 pages that were recently released.

The 850 pages were undoubtedly scrubbed. The 55,000 pages have not been vetted.

I believe the AP is asking for the 850 pages, not the 55,000.

If so, this may be an exercise in obfuscation, not discovery.

Internal polls without the liberal ‘special sauce’ must show Hildabeast losing to everyone but Christy and Linda Graham.

I'm thinking Hillary hid her emails from public record BY ORDER OF OBAMA so as to begin his traitorous foreign policy to include the overthrow of our Egyptian ally, illegal arms trafficking in Benghazi, enabling ISIS to purge the Middle East of Christians, the undermining of Israel and its current government, enabling Putin to overrun Ukraine, etc..

I think Hillary was TOLD to establish a hidden email server so HE could keep his foreign policy dealings hidden from public record. I think this goes higher up than her and he's probably sweating a bit right now.

The question is, will the sinking ship Hillary take Barry down with her?

The guy over Hillary’s shoulder in the phone #1picture appears to be handing her the phone #2.

Oh, certainly she has had time to destroy and suppress evidence with regard to this. But the questions now remain bigger than the actual deed. Nixon’s 18 minutes pale in comparison and every new journalist now knows this.

She can try the Clinton Browbeat and bring out all the Ghouls (Begala, Stephanopolis, Davis, Blumenthal and Bayou “Gollum” Carville), but today’s journalists (flawed as they are) have nothing in common with this bitch and no reason to protect her.

What they need to do is FOIA all outgoing email traffic through the state dept servers addressed to any ID on clintonemail.com. Might get a treasure trove of IDs on yahoo.com, Hotmail.com..etc

I think you're right, and that's what I've always thought. The SOS position was a set-up for her, since she was arguably the least powerful and least independent SOS ever but was put out front to take the hits for what was essentially Obama's policy. She was obviously intimidated by him, for some reason.

I didn't understand exactly why Bill C. permitted this (although keeping his distance), but the Obama WH is such a complex knot of secrecy, fraud and treason that it's hard to understand any of it.

The males at AP are attacking her just because she is a female. This harassment has to stop.

This is all orchestrated by Obama.

He hates Hillary. He brought her in as SOS to get some good and recent dirt on her.

He's clearing the deck to make way for Warren. The Clintons are far too conservative for him.

Why sue the State Department? They don’t have anything.

Sue Clinton.

No, they are still doing Obama's bidding.
