Gore’s fault.
I hope Al Gore was on board.
“Hottest year EVER” folks.
Just ask the warmmunists.
An unscheduled _residential visit to Atlantic Canada?
If the ice moved in in mid Feb why did this boat leave the dock?
WOW.
I hope they got lots of hot chocolate!!.. and schnapps.
Save the ferries! Somebody save the ferries!
At least the polar bears will have something to eat.
Thankfully, global warming is keeping the passengers and crew, warm while they await Canadian ice breakers!
This says both ferries were unstuck two and back on the job Tuesday - http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/both-marine-atlantic-ferries-back-on-the-move-1.2999429
Are they stuck again or old news? Can’t imagine how both could get stuck. When the first got stuck, one would think they’d give a heads up to the second not to depart or turn around. The ride is about 6 hours so surely they knew the conditions before leaving port. It isn’t as if this is the Dark Ages. Pick up a phone. Check the weather. What’s all those nifty satellites for? Global warming is going to kill us all, if we don’t stop it now.
Canada Ping!
MV Blue Puttees passenger/vehicle ferry operated by Marine Atlantic between the islands of Newfoundland and Cape Breton in eastern Canada. She is named after the nickname of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
During The Great War the battalion-sized regiment was the only North American unit to fight in the Gallipoli campaign of 1915.
The regiment was virtually wiped out at Beaumont Hamel on July 1, 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Since then July 1 has been marked as Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Of the 780 men who went forward only about 110 survived unscathed, of whom only 68 were available for roll call the following day.
GloBULL Warming! Climate change! Caused by humans made this happen!
And the CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent is slated for decommissioned in 2017. They started a new build effort in 2008, anticipating a 10 year replacement effort. As is, the St-Laurent has been in service duration sufficient to have been converted to diesel electric operation from steam turbine.
Based on the vessels ability to make steady 3 knot breaking 1.9 meters of ice and pressure ridges of 12 m depth, conditions must be exceptionally poor in the area. The USGC Polar Sea and CCGS Louis S. St-Laurent went together on a joint exercise to the North Pole back in ‘94.
