Oh, the delicious, delicious irony.
Yesterday was Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, which was celebrated with a concert and other festivities on the National Mall. While the concert itself was powered by solar energy, the attendees could have learned a lesson or two about taking care of planet Earth.
For instance, check out these trash and recycling cans I spotted near the National Mall, close to the Washington Monument:

Disgusting. Granted, there should have been more attention to detail/park workers actually emptying the trash cans, but this is just gross. This is the National Mall, not a dumpster. There was a definite failure to plan for the estimated hundreds of thousands of people who would be coming in to the area for the concert, and that is concerning.
I was hardly the only person to notice the disgusting state of the Mall:

While I think it's fine that the concert itself was powered by solar energy, there were dozens of incidental factors to the concert that essentially wiped out any benefit to the planet the solar power provided. People traveled to get to the concert in non-"green" ways, and when they got to the show, there were dozens of food trucks (which are not solar-powered) there to sell food that was packaged in styrofoam. None of that is particularly "good" for the environment. Plus, trash was everywhere.
It's great to care about the environment (and people probably should), but it's incredibly hypocritical to go to a concert celebrating the environment and leave the area a trash-strewn mess. Simply going to a concert is not an indulgence to litter in the future.
Isn’t this always the case when you have a mass gathering of lefties? Biggest hypocrites in addition to being the biggest slobs anywhere.
This happens EVERY time lefties have an event on the national Mall.
Tea Party rallies, Veterans’ parades, and Rolling Thunder(Bikers) usually leave it cleaned up.
Our son is a professional musician and plays at festivals all year long, probably plays at 8 and goes to two or three more to network. We’ve been to several. For the most part, they really try to recycle and compost. That’s where I first learned and accepted sorting out the trash from the compost from the recyclable. You would never see pictures like this.

Correct. Remember that rally led by Glenn Beck held in 2010 at the same location? And after the rally, the place was effectively spotless?
That’s because they always think others should clean up after whatever mess they make....both politically and otherwise.
National Mall Trashed After Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Concert
I was listening to the radio recently, and a rock music performer said that at large concerts in Europe, they give attendees a free beer for bringing in a certain number of empty cups. Keeps the venue cleaned up.
Same with the Promise Keepers rally. But look at twhen the One was inagurated.
Or look at the Tea Party massive trash piles...

That is just reflection on the trash removal people not getting there soon enough.

Every year they have this Earth Day thing, and every year the Mall gets trashed when they do.
Funny how it works out that way.
Every year they have a “March for Life”, and every year the pro-life crowd puts their trash in trash cans. Or, at least, near the trash cans. Sometimes the trash cans are overflowing.
Funny how it works that way.
One day A giant sinkhole will swallow that park on Earth day..
And recycle the whole damn lot of them.
