Guardian UK: Pope Francis is starting to look a lot like Sarah Palin or Kevin Rudd
The (leftwing) Guardian ^ | April 21, 2015 | Kristina Keneally

Posted on 04/23/2015 1:47:55 PM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

I’m starting to have a crisis of faith. Not in God, but rather, in Pope Francis.

It seems a betrayal to even write these words. I’m a progressive Catholic who longs for a church that is more welcoming of women, homosexuals and divorced people.(Yadda Yadda)

Francis – global superstar, media darling, a truly modern pope – is the best hope people like me have had for many years, right? He’s the second coming of John XXIII, isn’t he?

I confess that I am starting to doubt it.

Francis swept into the Chair of St Peter with such animation and apparent determination to up-end the traditional notions of how popes ought to behave.

Washing the feet of prisoners, including women and Muslims. Refusing to live in the Apostolic Palace...Refusing to judge homosexuals.

Last month Francis made a curious comment in an interview marking the second anniversary of his election as pope....

"I have the feeling that my Pontificate will be brief: four or five years; I do not know, even two or three."

The supposedly caretaker pope, John XXIII, managed in a four year and 218 day reign to utterly transform and modernise the church through the Second Vatican Council. In trying to explain how this happened, my university theology professor said: “Well, the Holy Spirit moves where it will.” And one of my classmates whispered, “It seems the Holy Spirit is a bit constipated these days. Nothing much is moving anymore.”

Undergraduate humour but a pretty accurate description from the viewpoint of our generation: post-Vatican II babies...

Also from the article:

"The pope has transmogrified into the most modern of all creatures: a 21st century celebrity. Having spent the past two years taking selfies, delighting crowds with his antics and entertaining the media with his well-placed “off the cuff” quips, Francis is starting to look familiar. Think Sarah Palin, or Kevin Rudd...

"Has Francis really changed the church? If the pope moves on in two or three years, what will he have left behind?...I pray the Holy Spirit is moving."

She evidently thinks the Holy Spirit is whatever is blowin' in the wind...

Guess who doesn't love Pope Francis anymore?

I don’t think she needs to be worried. I think that almost all world leadership are placeholders, preparing the way for the real leader to come, and then nobody will know what hit them.

Having spent the past two years taking selfies, delighting crowds with his antics and entertaining the media with his well-placed “off the cuff” quips, Francis is starting to look familiar. . . . . people who confuse popularity with leadership, or celebrity with substance.

Can't disagree with this statement.

Aww you’ve got the Love the Left don’t you?

God the Father is supposedly hateful and vengeful.

They think Jesus was a homosexual.

You’ve got to wonder what they think of the Holy Spirit. Tinkerbell?

What a depraved ideology...

Her first mistake is placing her faith in a man instead of God. Even a quick single reading of the bible teaches us the futility of this. Second, she wants to be “a progressive Catholic”. Sorry, lady, but most of the more significant “progressive “ changes we’ve heard advocated are directly in opposition to God’s instruction for us as understood by Christian faith. Suggest you carefully review what you want in light of the Higher Word. Most “progressives” think they know better then God, seeking to do what’s pleasing in their own sight instead. The Bible is very clear that this is unacceptable. God is the final authority, not us.

“She evidently thinks the Holy Spirit is whatever is blowin’ in the wind...”

I think she thinks she should dictate to the Holy Spirit how it should “move” things, and not the other way around.

I’m looking for a church whose god wants us all to have ice cream and cookies every day.

There are two real leaders to come. One will be even more slick and popular than Obama, but just as evil plus energetic and intelligent. The other will eventually defeat that slick leader, but only after many people have been deceived and have suffered because so many were deceived. In both cases, most of us won't know what hit us.

Seems to me she should just join a church that already shares her viewpoint instead of expecting the Catholic Church to come into line with her. Just like every other liberal, the world needs to change for them.

The Anglican/Episcopal Church has everything she wants, including --- so I'm told --- lesbian bishops. Why doesn't she convert?

Anti-Protestant bigotry, maybe?

No, it was Pope John XXIII, who convened Vatican II, which was the beginning of the church's rapid demise.

Many things from Vatican II were either misinterpreted or just plain misused...once it is straightened out, it will be O.K....and the church is not in a state of demise...good grief, she is 2,015 years old and these little glitches have happened more that once, and she comes out of them just fine...Christ promised good results and that He would be with her until the end of time....so far, so good.....

She evidently thinks the Holy Spirit is whatever is blowin’ in the wind...

that’s odd...just yesterday I posted a nearly identical sentiment in another thread...

and frankly, isn’t that what the vast majority currently populating the pews like to think as well? Involve some Vat II fanatic in a conversation about the wisdom of the Council, and within the first five words the Holy Spirit is invoked as guiding the path towards the light and happiness, as opposed to those oppressive, dark preconciliar days...

in all actuality, it’s Catholic feminists like this authorette that have driven the modern Church into theological impoverishment and ignominy, rendering it remarkably incapable of standing the rigors of the modern world it was so eager to invite...

the individual you respond to-and others of his/her ilk, care only to tell others how stupid they are to think differently, and so fulfill their pharisaic needs...
