I’m Gay, And I Oppose Same-Sex Marriage
The Federalist ^ | 04/28/2015 | Paul Rosnick

I want nothing in this world more than to be a father. Yet I can’t bring myself to celebrate same-sex marriage.

Gay marriage has gone from unthinkable to reality in the blink of an eye. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll shows that support for gay marriage is now at 61 percent—the highest it’s ever been. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case that many court-watchers believe will deliver the final blow to those seeking to prevent the redefinition of marriage. By all measures, this fight is over. Gay marriage won.

As a 30-year-old gay man, one would expect me to be ecstatic. After all, I’m at that age where people tend to settle down and get married. And there is nothing in this world I want more than to be a father and raise a family. Yet I can’t seem to bring myself to celebrate the triumph of same-sex marriage. Deep down, I know that every American, gay or straight, has suffered a great loss because of this.

I’m not alone in thinking this. The big secret in the LGBT community is that there are a significant number of gays and lesbians who oppose same-sex marriage, and an even larger number who are ambivalent. You don’t hear us speak out because gay rights activists (most of whom are straight) have a history of viciously stamping out any trace of individualism within the gay community. I asked to publish this article under a pseudonym, not because I fear harassment from Christian conservatives, but because I know this article will make me a target of the Gaystapo.

Unfortunately, there is no way to confirm this was written be someone who is homosexual.

Whoever wrote this will now become a target of the ever tolerant folks who will NOT tolerate intolerant speech. Or something. Ref: NY gay hotel owners. Ref: Backlash against Bruce(Brianna) Jenner stating he/she is a conservative republicrat.

In years past, many gays and lesbians entered into heterosexual marriages because it was the thing to do. They had children who did benefit from a mother and a father. I wonder if gays and lesbians would consider heterosexual marriages to complete themselves. Children do deserve a mother AND a father. And most children who have come out of unions where one spouse was gay/lesbian are adults with heterosexual desires. I don’t know the answer for people like this man, but the weight of the argument should always skew to ‘doing what’s right for the kids’. Period.

OK, what does it take to “prove” that one is homosexual?

Good article and gets right to the point of why marriage exists as the family support function for raising the next generation. Both roles are necessary and it is selfish hubris to expect that anything other than that can be successful.

That's what I was thinking too as I read it but I see the author was writing under a pseudonym. Probably a very wise move on his part.

I want nothing in this world more than to be a father.

That's obviously not true, or you could be one by the natural process.

If he really wants to be a father more than anything else, he needs to find a nice woman, settle down, and make babies.

He uses the word "Gaystapo" which has as its leader Hillary Clinton (Hitlery) who has memorized a book and implemented and handed out as Christmas gifts - Mein Kampf.

Interesting.

If the editor of the publication the article first appeared in is ethical — I make no such assumption, mind you — the author indeed is homosexual. When media publish anonymous essays, they are supposed to vet the authors to ensure that what they are revealing about themselves is accurate.

I have no problem with his staying single. Just as no one has a “right” to marry, no one has an obligation to marry.

Since the author refused to use his name, it could have been written by anyone, including me or you. If this is genuine I understand completely with his reluctance to use his name.

So to answer your question, he must be brave enough to stand up against the Gaystapo by using his real name. Only then can it be proven these really are the words of a gay man. Otherwise, the argument can be made that they are not the words of a gay man, and there is no way to refute that argument.

I honestly hope these are the words of a gay man, but I am left with uncertainty that they are.

They should have included that in the form of an editor’s note. But then how could the editor know for certain that the person was indeed gay unless the editor has known the person for awhile, and has seen the person in a homosexual relationship.

That was stipulated on "if he really wants to be a father more than anything else..."

Suppose you did know the name of the author. How, then do you propose to go about proving that he is gay? You cannot tell sexual orientation by someone’s name. Even if you knew the author’s real name, you still need to trust that the author is being genuine about his sexual preference.

I certainly can understand why he’d want to remain anonymous, and I find it difficult to believe that you wouldn’t sympathize with that desire as well.
