I get the feeling that no one on this thread read or understood the article. This is not about allowing any Nepalis to come here who aren’t already approved to come here. This is about not sending any Nepalis who are already here back to Nepal because their visas have expired. They get an 18 month extension.

Right, this is silly, but its not as bad as other similar cases.
Though they are poor, under-educated and low skilled,
Nepalese aren’t Muslim, they are well mannered and law-abiding, they are in demand as foreign guest workers due to their industry and discipline, and they make pretty good soldiers (Gurkhas).
We could do much worse.
Not all of them are under-educated guest workers. I live in a small tourist town and Nepalis own at least six businesses here.

It’s not about moving anybody here. It would apply only to Nepalis who were ALREADY in the USA as of April 25. They would be allowed to stay here temporarily.

And, if extended, can we get some guarantee that it won’t be extended again, and these people will then return to their own country?

Why talk about something that hasn’t been brought up? The same laws that apply to the end of a normal visa period would apply to the end of the extension.

It’s great to get that reassurance.
It’s not like the open borders crowd in a year and a half wouldn’t say “well, things still aren’t rebuilt over there, so we had better extend it for another 18 months.”
It’s not a reassurance it’s a fact. So it would be a big problem to let this tiny number of people stay here longer while their home country is in rubble?
More than likely many Nepalis won’t take advantage of the extensions because they will want to get back and help their families. Also likely is that many Nepalis whose visas are still in effect will want to go home early for the same reason. That’s human nature which would be especially true of these people.

Regardless, once anyone gains and special status with this Admin it means something much different then what we think. It is most likely another way to welfare bennies, healthcare, voting, etc.
See who we pay healthcare for. You might worry more about the status granted folks.
