Wrong call by Hawaii.

A better idea is to increase the tax on cigarettes. ECON 101. An increase in price will result in a decrease in demand.

18, 19, and 20-year-old Hawaiians need not worry. Everyone knows that it is real easy to produce a fake birth certificate in Hawaii.

Now how about raising the age to vote back to 21.

Meanwhile, 1,200 people die from tobacco use or exposure

Hard to die of exposure in HI where it's pretty much 80F round the clock.

So how will this law be enforced?

It is just incredible how politicians completely ignore all of the experiences of their youth when it comes to making laws once they enter office.

Throughout my youth, beginning in middle school many of my peers smoked and I never remember hearing any of my peers complain about it being difficult to get cigarettes.

As far back as the 1970s it was illegal to sell cigarettes to anyone under the age of 18 and yet kids in middle school are smokers.

If a kid that is obviously not 18 can purchase cigarettes how are you going to stop an 18 year old from purchasing cigarettes?

Red meat is dangerous to people's health.
The age for eating beef must be raised to 21! Now!
No hamburgers until age 21!
Playgrounds are hazardous!
No kids on swings, slides or monkey bars until they're 15!
Now everybody will be safe.

Let me know when they raise the voting age back up to 21 (which ought to be an imperative).

It just gives Five-O another reason to roust young people.

Ayn Rand

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

When I was in HS a lot of kids reeked of smoke. Law is pointless if it’s not enforced.

21? This is better than your neighborhoood libertarian deciding that your kid is old enough to buy smokes, drugs etc.

Now, let’s raise the voting age to 40. I’m actually fairly serious.
