Give someone “free” insurance and they’re going to use it - for a toothache, even.

It might be contrary to goals, but it’s not contrary to common sense.

They’re all on Medicaid. None of them pay premiums. You really think they want to start a paper trail with a doctor?? A doctor who might ask them about drugs, alcohol, guns, wives, chidren?? They’re generally street people....just like before.

They’re a little late to this story - and “contrary to goals”? It’s the only thing that could have happened. When you make the cost of going to the ER the same as going to a clinic there is eliminates another deterrent of going to the ER...therefore, visits increase, to the further detriment of those who need emergency services.

I worked in an ER...the ER of a large hospital located in a major city...for many years. We had two kinds of patients...affluent people from all over the world, including the suburbs of that major city (it was a *very* famous hospital) and "the most vulnerable among us" (the hospital was in a part of the city populated by these unfortunates).

To the Obama voters we were a walk in clinic that *never* closed,*never* talked about payment (illegal under Federal law) and arranged for a free cab ride home after they had been treated.
