Clinton calls out GOP opponents by name on voting rights

Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton accused four potential GOP presidential rivals by name of being "scared of letting citizens have their say" as she called Thursday for every American to automatically be registered to vote.

Clinton told an audience at the historically black Texas Southern University that she supports the concept of signing every American up to vote as soon as they're eligible at age 18, unless they specifically opt out. She called for expanded access to polling places, keeping them open for at least 20 days and offering voting hours on evenings and weekends.

For the first time in her campaign, she attacked her likely opponents by name as she laid into four GOP governors -- Texas's Rick Perry, Wisconsin's Scott Walker, Florida's Jeb Bush and New Jersey's Chris Christie -- telling them to "stop fear-mongering about a phantom epidemic of voter fraud."

"All of these problems voting just didn't happen by accident," she said. "And it is just wrong -- it's wrong -- to try to prevent, undermine and inhibit Americans' right to vote."

Clinton calls out GOP opponents by name on voting rights

".....Clinton made her remarks at Texas Southern University, a historically black university in Houston, where she received an inaugural award named after former Rep. Barbara Jordan, the first black woman elected to the House from the Deep South.

During her Senate tenure and her 2008 presidential campaign, Clinton pushed to make Election Day a national holiday and called for other measures allowing easier access at polls, especially for minorities.

At the time, she said some voter ID requirements amounted to a "modern day poll tax." More requirements on voters have been implemented since then, which she panned in her remarks.

Clinton, who announced her White House bid in April and will hold her first rally June 13, has made a push for issues seen as impacting those in minority communities as Democrats look to hold together the coalition that helped elect President Obama in 2008.

In April, she outlined her vision for criminal justice reform, along with a call for all police to have body cameras, an issue that drew massive attention following high-profile cases of police-involved deaths of black men.

Lawyers allied with Clinton and national Democrats have also filed lawsuits in battleground states of Ohio and Wisconsin challenging voting laws that they say are too restrictive.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), who has called for congressional action on the Voting Rights Act, discussed the need to preserve voting rights across the country.

Clinton evoked example of voting hurdles, students being unable to use their IDs to vote, grandmothers being turned away from polls because of expired driver's licenses and fathers released from prison unable to vote.

After her speech, a student played "How Great is Our God" on the viola while Clinton bobbed her head."

Hey, if a Clinton says there’s no fraud, then there’s no fraud!

(I had trouble even typing that).

How fitting that she spoke at TSU, home of the Ocean of Stole Marching Band.

I think if they find out the Clinton Foundation was being used as part of the FIFA bribery scheme, Hillary Clinton could be in BIG trouble for enabling international tax fraud.

signing every American up to vote as soon as they're eligible at age 18, unless they specifically opt out

in a free society one would be free to register to vote if they so desire, not have to opt out after the government mandates their registration. The hag is clearly a communist Marxist through and through and belongs in prison, not in US politics.

Gee, I wonder what she thought of ones like JFK and LBJ and their giving voting rights to dead people (back when she was a Goldwater Girl)?

She’s going to the mattresses using the old Dem tricks cause old tricks are the best tricks.

It’ll be racism, sexism and plutocracy from here on out. Do you think there were any students who found her comments condescending?

She doesn’t really care if you vote. She just needs you registered to commit the fraud.
