Prison worker allegedly plotted for escaped inmates to kill her husband

Ahead of Joyce Mitchell’s expected court appearance Monday, reports reveal new information about the prison worker who has been accused of helping two inmates escape from upstate New York’s Clinton Correctional facility.

Both the New York Daily News and New York Post reported Monday that, according to a source, Mitchell, had planned to drive convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat away from the prison and to her home, where they would then kill her husband, also an employee at Clinton.

Prosecutors say Mitchell, who worked in the prison tailor shop, provided Matt and Sweat with the tools for their escape, including hacksaw blades, drill bits and chisels. The 51-year-old had allegedly planned to be the pair’s getaway driver, but backed out at the last minute and checked herself into a hospital instead, later confessing her involvement in the prison break to State Police.

This just keeps getting better and better. I expect to see it on "Snapped", "Dateline", and or 20/20 in due course.

The truth is stranger than fiction. Always. 4 times I've been on jury cases and each was more ridiculous than the last.

Perhaps the Coen brothers are already working on a script.

Well, that would explain the hubby not knowing anything. Poor husband.........always the last to know.

Yikes!

It’s good that this woman didn’t go through with her plot. One hopes it was pangs of conscience rather than loss of nerve, though that seems rather unlikely. Either works, though, from the perspective of her husband not being dead.

BTW, anyone care to lay odds on the likelihood these two convicted murderers would have offed Joyce Mitchell after whacking her husband?

... where they would then kill her husband
And what would be the consequences for the two cons? They've already got life sentences.
By now, having made fools of the entire state law enforcement agencies, they're probably both in Mexico.

Hopefully the husband cleaned out any joint bank accounts before the lawyers moved in. As for bail, forget about it, I would let her sit there and rot.

Well, at minimum... a week or so on the couch.

Based upon her looks, I’d say he’s been needing something more for a while too!

I think the two cons would have offed the woman instead of whacking the husband. Figure they have her car, they make her withdraw a bunch of cash from the ATM, kill her and put her body in the trunk.

They're out of the state before anybody notices they're gone, and very far away before husband reports Joyce as missing.

That’s a good point. Easier for them, and still no witnesses.

“I’m unhappy with my life. You know what would make me happy? A hot prison romance with a murderer who would kill my husband and then be on the run.”

Yep. Just that stupid. Couldn’t get a cat or something.

She would be at room temp right now if she had gone through with the plan.
