If someone were to ask me to name those most responsible for the end of the abomination of chattel slavery in this country, I would definitely put Douglass in the top five.
Obviously, your post is tongue in cheek.
But it doesn’t go without saying that he wasn’t ‘acting white.’ He was acting as a Christian, and as a man, and as an American, should act.
He was among the foremost leaders of what I choose to call the second chapter of the American Revolution.
The third chapter is against the heinous crime of child murder being committed in our day under the color of “law.”
In my view, the Revolution will never be complete as long as any person in our country is being deprived of their God-given, unalienable, EQUAL rights.

Few recall that the very slavery he speaks of was legal and normal under British rule. It took two revolutions to depose of it.

This is by far my favorite passage:
“Citizens, your fathers made good that resolution. They succeeded; and to-day you reap the fruits of their success. The freedom gained is yours; and you, therefore, may properly celebrate this anniversary. The 4th of July is the first great fact in your nation’s history — the very ring-bolt in the chain of your yet undeveloped destiny.
Pride and patriotism, not less than gratitude, prompt you to celebrate and to hold it in perpetual remembrance. I have said that the Declaration of Independence is the ring-bolt to the chain of your nation’s destiny; so, indeed, I regard it. The principles contained in that instrument are saving principles. Stand by those principles, be true to them on all occasions, in all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost.
From the round top of your ship of state, dark and threatening clouds may be seen. Heavy billows, like mountains in the distance, disclose to the leeward huge forms of flinty rocks! That bolt drawn, that chain broken, and all is lost. Cling to this day — cling to it, and to its principles, with the grasp of a storm-tossed mariner to a spar at midnight.”

I don’t have time to read the whole speech right now, so forgive me if I have missed something relevant to this comment.
The idea of a Black abolitionist addressing a Fourth of July celebration is slightly comical.
From 1776-1782, the British Army promised emancipation to any American slave who joined the British Army.
The Brits kept their word, even after they lost. They transported all former slaves by ship to British controlled Canada.
Well, there is certainly nothing comical about Douglass' remarks. They are as serious as any words spoken in American history.
