One of the great things about America is that a person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proved guilty. No matter how many witnesses saw Francisco Sanchez gun down 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle on Pier 14 in San Francisco, he still has the presumption of innocence.

That's why I'm pleased that Mr. Sanchez's side of the story has finally gotten out. And, I believe, in the interest of fairness, we should present it:

1) The sea lions are to blame.

Sanchez reportedly first told police he was shooting at sea lions.

Uh, what? Oh. I get it. If you're a special class, it's apparently okay to molest or harass the sea lions. Kinda like when margabby kelley-giffords daughters dog killed the sea lion pup at the beach near LA? If that's the story the guy is giving up, then it sounds like SF should release him on his own recognizance. Or the "fact" that any firearm wrapped in a t-shirt can spontaneously start firing. That always happens when I find one wrapped in a t-shirt.
