AP Poll: Sharp divisions after high court backs gay marriage

The Supreme Court's ruling last month legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide has left Americans sharply divided, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll that suggests support for gay unions may be down slightly from earlier this year.

The poll also found a near-even split over whether local officials with religious objections should be required to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, with 47 percent saying that should be the case and 49 percent say they should be exempt.

Overall, if there's a conflict, a majority of those questioned think religious liberties should win out over gay rights, according to the poll. While 39 percent said it's more important for the government to protect gay rights, 56 percent said protection of religious liberties should take precedence.

The poll was conducted July 9 to July 13, less than three weeks after the Supreme Court ruled states cannot ban same-sex marriage.

According to the poll, 42 percent support same-sex marriage and 40 percent oppose it. The percentage saying they favor legal same-sex marriage in their state was down slightly from the 48 percent who said so in an April poll. In January, 44 percent were in favor.

Asked specifically about the Supreme Court ruling, 39 percent said they approve and 41 percent said they disapprove.

It’s ok Justice Kennedy decided that perversion is the same as marriage so that’s all that matters.

Well, too bad for the majority (again). After all, there's not a word about so-called religious liberty in the Constitution, but gay rights are mentioned repeatedly. Only abortion rights get higher billing!

Sorry to have woken these fools from their slumber, but they're realizing that the sodomites don't want, have never wanted, will never be satisfied with, merely being equal. They are vile and malevolent and just like the muslim, are determined to destroy everyone different.

So, to all those who prostituted themselves in the name of political correctness in the hopes of placating these perverts, sorry. They won't be placated until you're dead. Not unlike the German Jews in WW2 who realized too late that mere obedience to Hitler just wasn't enough. He wasn't going to be happy until they were all dead.

And you will have to check your religious liberty at the door of your church, mosque or synagogue.

You will not be allowed to express your liberty at a baker, hotel or any other, “public” area. And, if your liberty is expressed simply as a disdain not based in faith, forget about it!

The left is, “Pro-Choice” only in very limited circumstances. If I choose not to associate with perverts I will be prosecuted even though I am “granted” freedom of association.

40 years after Roe v. Wade and the finding of an imaginary right to privacy in the Constitution, the country is still bitterly divided.

5 unelected men and women in black robes cannot make clean which my God calls unclean.

your right to privacy is defined as the combination of the right to freedom of speech combined with the freedom of association.

this means, you can choose to say what you want to those you wish to say it.

Indicates why the nation is in such a mess. Some think evil is ok and some do not. Means some think good is ok and some do not. That carries over into all matters requiring decisions for the country. Just to name a few others than the recent marriage ruling. Abortion, racism, finances, political correctness, military, entitlements, education, energy, illegal immigration and on and on.
