Transgender people are still fighting for access to crucial health services, despite the Affordable Care Acts requirement that insurance companies not deny coverage based on gender or health history.
The issue stems from the requirement that enrollees check a single gender box when they sign up for a plan sold on the individual or small group markets, according to advocates and health care providers.
What happens is that the health insurance companies have specific codes and they put you in as female or male; you only get services that go with that code, said Robin Maril, senior legislative counsel at the Human Rights Campaign, an advocacy group for lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transgender people.
But someone who is transitioning from a woman to a man or vice versa might still have organs associated with the other gender, such as a uterus and breast tissue for someone born as a woman, or a prostate for someone born as a man. In addition, the transitioning process can take years, and some transgender people forgo reassignment surgery because of cost or other reasons. . .

So a man who wants to be a woman gets maternity benefits and a woman who wants to be a man gets prostate checks? Is that right?
God I’m confused. How will a man’s plumbing work with no prostate?

Ha ha, so they spend billions on a website and they can;t sub-contract this out to facebook with it’s 50+ choices for your sex.....
Another Liberal Fail that affects the libs
Nelson Muntz : HA HA
So they want to claim to be the other gender, until they don’t. What they don’t get is they are now arguing there is, in fact, a difference after arguing for years that there wasn’t.
Now wait, I thought they were rolling in the cost of maternity care into guys’ policies so as to be nondiscriminatory. So what went wrong here. It sounds like some are now complaining about, in effect, not being treated as omnisexual.
The game is amusing to watch in one way, sad in another.
I guess they expect the ex-him to commit to the point of having it totally removed, or something.
What about trans-species people? Does everyone hate them? Aren’t they entitled to equality too? Doesn’t “love win” for them? /s
So they want to pay the premium for one sex but also want to be able to pick and choose treatments as if they were either sex.
Sounds like they need a special category, and a special set of premiums.
You expect special privileges just because you gonna chop your schmeckel? Act like a sane human being and you won’t have any problems.
Actuarial nightmare. But hey, why ask gender at all? Then, everybody gets everything they need/want, and it’s all FREE!!!!
Instead of baking gay wedding cakes, how about an obgyn who refuses a gyno exam for a man?
Why ask if you are male or female when enrolling? Since we have to pay premiums (and/or taxes) for all the services whether we need them or not, why should it matter whether you enroll as male or female?
What to do when a transgender man needs his pap smear?

The older ones will be able to pee much faster. ;-)
