and we all know that it really really helps a child to live in poverty yet all his neighbors are rich and have fancy things....it does a lot for self esteem...NOT!

While walking down a dark alley at night (why would I be doing that anyway?), I’d rather cross paths with a white accountant embezzler than a black gang banger with his pants down around his a**, wearing a hoodie.

Black poverty is institutionalized. A large segment of society is socially engineered to live this way because of the whim of politicians to create a secure voting bloc.

Why are most large US cities under the control of democrats?

Why do most large US cities have a decayed central part?

Why do most east coast large cities have a large minority (black) population?

The residents are effectively trapped in their environment because of the structure of the social "benefits" they receive.

Maybe Blacks suffer most the lack of desire to assimilate into the American culture and are more caught up in the latest street slang.

I went to Africa through a few countries twice now in the last few years and I can’t even totally repeat what Black Africans think of American Blacks who come visit there. They refer to American Blacks with insults based on their behavior when they visit. The least I can say is they consider the youth clowns.

Sadly so, but there is still no shortage of moonshine stills in some of these back road mountain hollows and glens.

I think what she is saying is that poor black people have to live around other black people, which is so much worse than living around white people. Maybe she knows what she is talking about. I think George Gilder made the same point. As a graduate student, he and his wife lived below the poverty line in a slum in Albany, New York. They had enough to eat, heat in the winter, TV, furniture, a roof that didn’t leak. What was so bad about life in the slum? What happened when you went out the door.

Depends, but I live in NH currently which is 97% white and some other, I do not have a problem and the local culture is more to my liking hence why I enjoy my neighborhood.

It never was this way before they installed BASKETBALL GOALS in the park across the street. Now there are tennis shoes on the power lines all around the park, and we all know what that means.

That they quit playing tennis and switched to basketball?

I have three municipal b'ball courts right around the corner from my home (I play there a couple of times a week) and we get players from out of town as well as locals, a mix of ages and races. I have not seen any problems other than the usual too-much-testosterone trash talk and shoving matches younger players seem to deal with. The few times black thug kids showed up our regular black guys put them on notice. Play hard, have fun, and leave the attitude at home. Most of them don't come back, but a couple have learned that old whitey ain't such a bad teammate or opponent. It's not the game, it's the attitude.

I was poorer-than-poor when I grew up, because I didn't have a $400 pair of sneakers or a smartphone. (Come to think of it, nobody did.)

In 2015, in the United States, poverty doesn't have anything to do with money.

You are very lucky.

The median in my town is $775K thereby shutting about most of the kids who want to purchase in their hometown

It is madness—and makes no sense to me.

I have to agree with you.

My former neighborhood (in the city of Minneapolis) was turning this same way.

The people who were moving in had that “I don’t give a ____!” attitude.

I now live out in the southwest suburbs of Minneapolis and a number of my neighbors are still of color - mainly Hindus and Asians.

The difference is that they take care of their property, respect their neighbors and keep a reign on their kids from turning into street thugs.

Numbers are skewed now because lots of middle class whites live in mom and dads basements in nice homes, but collect food stamps and are officially “poor”

Yes, what you are saying is in my opinion exactly right though I call it all a lack of shame. No sense of shame and an elevated sense of pride and false ego.

My wife was from Mexico now a citizen THIS YEAR after waiting 22 years to come here legally.

She says in Mexico it is the same thing now, when she visited the culture changed to a shameless one with a huge non deserving ego. The behavior of especially men was ignorant and the women lost their modesty that was prevalent in prior generations.

Blacks go to Church quite a bit, but it seems most aren’t following the Christian principles they heard when they were in the pews.

Self responsibility, drug issues are much harder than easy hand outs, being lazy and doing drugs. That is the additional problems we and even Mexico have going on.

Mexico also has no possession of guns allowed by the people and that gave cartels and corrupt governments power.

“Poverty is the opposite of wealth.”

Exactly. Poverty is a state of mind, while being poor is a temporary economic situation.
