American is having lots of labor trouble in Philly and Reagan with the former USAir folks. They need Reagan. They don’t need Philly.
As for the airport at Philly - it’s better than Boston, but that’s about the best you can say for it.

the company said it was for financial reasons they were ending there flying into Israel. not every decisions bassed on politics..

Wise choice. The El Al security procedures are serious and show up the HS system for what it is, a politically correct dog and pony show run by people barely qualified to flip burgers at a Wendy’s.

If such flights are profitable, another airline will pick them up.
Lots of American cities don’t have direct flights to Israel. Like much of the population, you will have to fly first to New York City, then fly to Israel.

Perhaps AA needs a name change?
I would like to see all the other non-profitable destinations first before I decide if it is political or not.
Of course it sucks for passengers. That does not negate the fact that PHL is one of the most profitable hubs in the U.S.
LGA is a hole too - and yet airlines can charge a premium for proximity to Manhattan.
It may not be profitable for flights to Israel from AA. There are other hubs and other airlines if you don’t want to be funneled through PHL.
Philly is a ground traffic nightmare, like La Guardia or Charlotte..
Well, my wife and I flew that flight from Phil to Tel Aviv 5 years ago. It was a US Airways flight. We flew on US Airways from Palm Springs, to Phoenix to Philadelphia to Tel Aviv. Worked great for us. As to Philly, it was easy to transfer flights both going and coming.
I question whether US Airways was losing money on this flight as it was near full capacity both ways for us. Once again, the public gets screwed. When our so-called antitrust laws were ignored and this merger was approved, smaller airports like Palm Springs lost two competitive carriers which were replaced by one of those two. The end result is now fewer flights at higher prices. Surprise, surprise. NOT.
True, but El Al does not fly on the Sabbath (Saturdays). So, if your tour begins or ends on a Saturday, you have to arrange and pay for an extra hotel night, possibly two.
Then there is the matter of getting from one’s home to the very limited number of airports where El Al has service. So that likely requires the added cost of a second airline where the combined fares likely would be more than flying all the way on American or another US carrier serving Israel.
US Scare is a different matter. Sounds like you got lucky. Given my location I watched US Air deteriorate. But they always had problems in PHL. I have sat at gate in PHl and watched baggage drop off of the machinery carrying it to my connecting flight, which was late. Despite protests from many waiting for the same flight, it was met with rude and crude language from US Air employees.
I have stood in line of US Air 'customer service' at PHL to get my flight changed. Four Negro employees were playing games on the intercom, literally not official business, but high school games, not helping anyone. I have witness old and crippled people trying to get from terminal to terminal and treated like baggage, with the same regard as baggage falling on the tarmac.
There is little to like about Philadelphia. It is filled with Negroes, union scum, liberals, illegal aliens and other low lifes. That is increasingly true of the surrounding suburbs.
When US Airways launched PHL-TLV in 2009, and for at least 2 years after, they said that the route was VERY profitable. Hence, the skepticism that now it is not.
El Al has limited code sharing with American and Jet Blue. So you can generally ticket through to one of the old American hubs (but apparently not the old USAir hubs).
