Three Americans and a British grandfather who prevented 'carnage' by tackling the French train terrorist have been awarded France's highest honour for bravery.
U.S. Airman Spencer Stone, National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, their friend Anthony Sadler and Briton Chris Norman were presented with the Legion d'Honneur at the Elysee Palace in Paris.
French President Francois Hollande, who pinned on their medals, praised the men for taking action in the face of terrorism.
The ceremony was held as the first heroic passenger who wrestled a machine gun from the terrorist was today revealed to be an American professor.

Just wait till their friends back home ask “What did you do on vacation?”
I wonder if they also got some special jars of Hollande sauce.
Humble and gracious. These are great ambassadors for America.
I hope that they can stay that way, but I would bet money that multiple plans are in the works to lure this guys into doing a reality show as I write this.
The guy who was shot was a American born:
“Mark Moogalian, a 51-year-old American-born professor was shot in the neck when he wrestled the Kalashnikov assault rifle from the gunman.”
Would they then be allowed to wear the ribbon for this award among others on their dress uniforms in the future?
Good Question? Active Duty/Vets??
“The three American men whom French authorities credit with disrupting a potential terror attack on a Paris-bound high-speed train Friday are childhood friends who had all attended Californias Freedom Christian School and often played military games together growing up.”
Just doing the jobs Frenchmen won’t do.
I am still reveling in their actions. I'm so bursting with pride and respect, and to know that one was a civilian student and an older Brit with no military training. It has made my year so far.
You know what really bothers me?
Q. Who is the greatest hero in the War On Terror?
A. The stewardess who caught the shoe bomber and saved that plane.
What’s her name?
No one knows. She wasn’t a government employee, so she doesn’t count. They feed us lies about “heroic” Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman, but the real hero is forgotten.
If these awesome guys had done this in Homeland USSA, the medals would be going to the first cop on the scene.
Obama would have honored him if he had been shot while trying to grab a gun from a cop. But interfering with a Muslim's attempt to carry out his duty of jihad...not worthy of praise.
Obama had a phone call with them on Sunday.
It still frost me that the European gentleman who took out the panty bomber, was not feted by Napolitano (”the system has worked”, or BO.
BO regarding this incident said they “might have” averted a greater tragedy.
Well, I will give the French credit for something. They awarded those medals pretty darn quickly. And that's how it should have been.
Contrast that with the YEARS it took for the Fort Hood wounded to get their Purple Hearts.
For the USAF: Air Force members who have been told a foreign nation has made formal offer of an award or decoration to them may participate in a formal presentation ceremony and receive the decoration when accepting the award is not prejudicial to military or national interest. The recipient of the foreign award or decoration in this manner does not constitute official acceptance, unless an official determination of acceptance was made by a representative of the US government (DoS, US Embassy, USDAO, or Military Command). To gain official acceptance, the recipient must forward a request to accept and retain the award or decoration to the appropriate approval authority.
Thank you Half Vast!
