In a sense, you are asking the wrong question too. The question I ask, in times like these, is how would this candidate be successfully limited if he became president and really went off the reservation.
The stakes are high. In fact, at times like these, they are so high I can’t even effectively discuss it without violating Godwin’s law.
Yes, the risk truly is THAT high. Technically it is always a possibility, but it takes times like these to really increase the risk.

No, I apparently just misunderstood your question. I read it as voting for Trump would get Hillary by default. From your reply, it seems you meant refusing to vote for Trump would get Hillary by default.
I’ve been favorable to Trump but with reservations. I could happily pull the lever for him over any number of other candidates in the Republican field at present, though, and have stated as much.
No, not really. I understand the point and the sentiments. Trump is changing the dialogue in this country. The media is covering his anti-PC laced message in a bombastic fashion. He is driving the narrative. This is all good for conservatives. And then..... BUT....
Will he be a conservative President and maintain the ambivalent to the media and pundits, conservative, take-no-prisoners approach? Will he shrink government? Will he get government out of health insurance? I have my doubts, once elected.
He's been a democrat all his life and supported democrat principles. Trump is a very effective opportunist. I am not sure about his loyalties and values with regards to the future of this nation and respect for the Constitution.
I was alive then. I worked at a gas station at the height of the embargo.
And I consider this time very similar to that time, but more so by several orders of magnitude. It makes the risk greater of us choosing “poorly”.
And think of this as a call to be careful and thoughtful rather than saying we should not elect Trump. It’s just a warning. Fools rush in...

well, that’s good. He might not be the candidate but there are some that have mighty particular views on voting for one of the several conservatives in he fray that is not their absolute choice bar none.

Trump is not only an egomaniac, he’s a megalomaniac.
Take away his populist rants on immigration, China and WashDC meddling and you have another big government type who simply wants to be in charge. Trump is not about limiting the size of the federal bureaucracy, he just wants to run it his way.
And Obama and the Republican Congress have already shredded the Constitution, so there’s nothing left to lose. And if indeed this is a choice between Hillary Clinton and Julius Caesar (picture Trump with olive leaves on his brow) then I choose Julius. Obama has ruled unconstitutionally and shown every other politician how to do it. There is no guarantee this time forward that we won’t live under a dictatorship. My hope is that Trump can get this genie back in the bottle.
We have a LOT left to lose. Any student of history knows how bad it can get. Any survivor of the death camps still alive knows how bad it can get. And the signs are everywhere. Look at how Christian business owners are treated and compare that to how Jewish business owners in Germany were treated - not in 1939, but in 1933 - when it is still relatively benign.
Now look at Trump’s comments about Christianity. They are not exactly re-assuring.
These things never happen all at once. I am a student of the history of the Nazi rise in Germany and it’s various phases. Most importantly, how it gained popularity with otherwise rational people - but tried by difficult times.

You need to see the whole Trump package and ask what would happen if that was our president. I’m not saying he would even be a bad president, but it is important to really examine the situation as you would a car you are thinking about buying. One negative can wipe out a plethora of positives, if it’s the right negative.
It needs to at least be considered.

When Reagan ran for president the first time, he’d already been governor of one of the largest states in the nation, California, for two terms......and I don't remember Ronald Reagan ever insulting anyone, foreign or domestic, friend or enemy. He was a consummate gentleman....his political rhetoric could be tough and partisan, but it was never vulgar or personal.
Also Trump still has positions that put him at the moderate end of the Republican spectrum.... He’s not opposed to single-payer health care in principle and he's not opposed to raising Tax's......
Reagan's conservative credentials didn’t emanate overnight to match the political season....as Trumps seem to have come about.... His was a slow and thoughtful transformation from the 1930s to the 1960s...... Trump’s appears to be a midnight conversion.

I would also add, see who Trump surrounds himself with. That will be real sin of who he is. It is hard to determine this now. Maybe some msm interviewer can start asking and doing real work to find this out as it is today. Maybe too early though.
But a good set of questions would be, who are your favorite current Supreme Court members and why? Who is favorite past Supreme Court members and why? And what type of characteristics would you look for as nominees to the Supreme Court?
He has indicated somewhat who what type of person he respects and doesn’t for VP. What about other cabinet positions.
This information would be real useful to help vet the “real” Donald Trump.
