The mystery surrounding a legendary Nazi gold train buried in Poland took a new twist after the suspected location of the armoured train and its cargo went up in flames.
The embankment by the Wroclaw-Walbrzych main line considered to be the favourite for the train’s location in the town of Walbrzych, southern Poland, was burnt along with 219 square yards of forest and bush on it.

Tadeusz Slowikowski, a local historian who has dedicated himself to finding the train, told the MailOnline that in 2003 three armed men told him to stop searching, and that his dog had been poisoned. He also claimed his phone was still monitored.
“A lot of dangerous people are interested in finding this train, this could have been a warning from one of them,” another hunter told the website. “This man who called me knows that I know something.”
Just seeing the headline my first thought was “that train had the Ark of the Covenant, and some moron went and opened the thing.”
Well, I suppose the “The train and all its gold were lost in a tragic boating accident” excuse was not going to work too well.

You know, if you go traipsing off into the Ozarks looking for that legendary lost Confederate payroll, chances are pretty good you’ll be run off by heavily armed men.
Doesn’t mean your close to finding the payroll. Does mean that you’re about to stumble across someone’s still.

I have a hard time believing that a train full of gold can sit there for 70 years and not be touched.

You’re off in the woods searching for legendary lost treasure. Are the heavily armed men you encounter some sort of ancient order like the Brotherhood of the Cruciform Cross dedicated to safeguarding it, or local hicks trying to protect their highly illegal source of revenue?

So there was something terrible on the train, the fire was set to destroy it, and the hero made a daring escape!

EPA employees from the USA were not seen leaving the area of this disaster.
219 sq-yards of forest is not much... less than the footprint of my house.
Hmmmm. Start a fire miles and miles away from where you know the treasure to be. Report it as at/near the location of all that hidden gold.

I’m thinking that the site was deliberately burned to make it easier to dig for the train. Freshly burned terrain makes it a lot easier to use metal detectors, ground penetrating radar etc. The train could be buried in the embankment still.

A five alarm fire burned an area somewhat larger than a football field. Must have been a slow day in Poland.
