Real-estate developer Donald Trump wrote a letter to CNN boss Jeff Zucker on Wednesday that called for him to donate the profits from next week's presidential debate to charity.
The Republican front-runner noted that CNN reportedly hiked its advertising rates 40 times its normal rates for the September 16 debate, which the network is hosting.
"While I refuse to brag, and you know very well, this tremendous increase in viewer interest is due 100% to 'Donald J. Trump,'" Trump wrote to Zucker.
Trump's campaign forwarded the letter to reporters and shared it on social media.
Fox News hosted the first official prime-time debate and saw viewership soar to a reported record of 24 million viewers. Trump suggested that was because of his star power.
The former "Apprentice" star has surged to the top of almost all recent polls testing the Republican primary.
"As you are aware, for the first debate, FOX unexpectedly (but not to those who know), had one of the largest audiences in the history of cable television, 24 million people plus, and word is that your audience will be even larger," he wrote.
Trump then informed CNN that the network should view its debate as "a public service and not accept the massive profits that this airing will generate."
"I believe that all profits from this broadcast should go to various VETERANS groups, a list of which I will send to you in the near future," he wrote. "The veterans of our country, our finest people, have been treated horribly by our government and its 'all talk and no action' politicians."

Trump or his minions should be asking Bernie Sanders to weigh in on this proposition to provide some Social Justice to greedy capitalists like CNN.
No he didn't. CNN is a business. They report the news. The debate is news. Why should they give up the revenue from it?
When this initially was proposed I thought CNN would if they did give to charity donate to the likes of Planned Parenthood, as an in your face middle finger, it is good to see Trump would demand the contributions go the Veteran programs.
He says, then proceeds to brag.
So the Commie-lovers at CNN have no problem being capitalist pigs, do they?
Increasing their ad rates 4000% is so ‘unfair’
Trump is definitely the Bomb. LOL!
During the first Gulf War, I heard an anecdote about that. A CNN camera crew showed up at a forward position, and asking if there were any dead bodies lying around that they could film. They were reportedly disappointed when they turned out not to be dead Americans.
I was just out of the Marine Corps when that went down. That strongly affected how I saw CNN thereafter.
Notice the scrupulous omission of "Presidential Candidate" to the title?
It GALLS the Leftists that a businessman - an EEEEEvil Capitalist - is even in contention.
I thought Marxists didn’t like money. What happened to CNN?
The Trumpster out bragging again...hahhhahha I love it. I love the way he put this one over on CNN
That would sour Zucker’s milkshake.
It’s called humor. Get to know it.
Not so much that Trump is anti-capitalist, but that Left Wing Crony Capitalists like CNN need to be lined up to be called out by real socialists. It’d be funny.....(and a great negotiation card to play)
My observation is that liberals are much more hung up on/addicted to the material things in life so are more greedy, more money grubbing and more money hungry. They put on a good facade though!!!
Some do walk the walk but the words "limousine liberal" exist for a reason
Is it?
Trump makes coverage of the “horse race”, typically at this early stage unimportant to most but the media looking to sell stuff, so entertaining that I’m becoming riveted to watching. So much the better if some of the (evil to me) players end up with real injuries.
Boycott the CNN advertisers unless CNN donates profits to charity.
Milquetoasts and wallflowers don’t make good presidents.
