Legendary drug lord Pablo Escobar lost $2.1 billion in cash each year — and it didn't matter

At the peak of his power, infamous Medellín cartel boss Pablo Escobar brought in an estimated $420 million a week in revenue, easily making him one of the wealthiest drug lords in history.

Escobar, known as the "king of cocaine," saw his wealth grow so immense that he stashed piles of cash in Colombian farming fields, dilapidated warehouses, and in the walls of cartel members' homes, according to Roberto Escobar, the cartel's chief accountant and the kingpin's brother, in his book, "The Accountant's Story: Inside the violent world of the Medellín cartel."

"Pablo was earning so much that each year we would write off 10% of the money because the rats would eat it in storage or it would be damaged by water or lost," Escobar wrote.

That would be about $2.1 billion, given how much money he was reportedly making.

Escobar simply had more money than he knew to do with, and therefore haphazardly losing money to rodents and mold wasn't an issue.

Losing 2.1 Billion a year? Wow. Impressive. Not even the Obama vacations waste that much money.

Obama and his ilk spent $85 billion dollars per MONTH on what is called Quantitative Easing. They did this for at least 5 YEARS. Approximately one half was for T-bill purchases to legitimize and collateralized our debt that massively increased to cover mainly entitlements and liberal programs. The other half was used to buy Mortgaged Backed Securities (can anybody say renamed bundled credit derivatives of junk mortgages?). It is no wonder the Stock Market was so happy....happy as long as QE still exists...... The other part - debt- well, that’s the Fed and they police themselves.

When you’re making that much money, what’s the point of making more?

Per Wikipedia:

At the height of its power, the Medellín drug cartel was smuggling fifteen tons of cocaine per day, worth more than half a billion dollars, into the United States.

And did he ever once say gracias to American junkies?

Banks, and one in particular were caught and fined for laundering Billions in drug money. They were fined the equivalent of a few days of profit and had their hand slapped. Escobar is nothing but a player in an extremely large game led by existing governments and politicians. Most of us live in one such country.

The rats in this country eat up more money than that.

great netflix series “Narcos” shows the scenes described in the article ...

Escobar was a very interesting figure, usually dressed casually as if he was going to Wal-Mart to buy a bag of ice ...

The only demonstrable effect of the War on Drugs is to give psychopaths literally more money than they know what to do with.

For example:

Former Secy of Defense and Democrat presidential advisor Clark Clifford was chairman of First American Bank, a narco money launderer and affiliate of BCCI. BCCI was run by Saudi Arabian financier Ghaith R. Pharaon. BCCI was notable for its dealings with terrorist organizations, conventional and nuclear arms materiel traffickers, and narcotics traffickers in the 1990s as well as its catastrophic collapse that left depositors with nothing. Ghaith R. Pharaon and BCCI, along with the bin Laden’s brother, are also notable for the large stakes they took in two companies run by George W. Bush, Arbusto Energy and Harken Energy.

There is a reason why the war on drugs will never end: like Hillary said, there’s too much money in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VNZjXv3LKI
