Server company: Deleted Clinton emails may be recoverable
The Hill ^ | September 12, 2015 | Bradford Richardson

Platte River Networks, the company that managed Hillary Clinton’s private email server, says it has no evidence of the server being wiped, meaning tens of thousands of deleted emails could be recovered, according to the Washington Post .

“Platte River has no knowledge of the server being wiped,” company spokesman Andy Boian said. “All the information we have is that the server wasn’t wiped.”

The former secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate said she deleted her personal correspondence amounting to 31,000 emails before turning over the server to FBI investigators.

Deleted data can still be restored from a server unless it has been “wiped” – a process that involves overwriting underlying data with gibberish.

A Clinton campaign spokesperson declined to comment to the Post.

It is unclear whether anyone has the authority to restore the emails, even if they could be restored.

Clinton and her staffers have deflected questions as to whether the server had been wiped, on several occasions saying they don’t know what “wiped” means.

The FBI is investigating whether Clinton compromised classified information over the private server during her tenure as secretary of State.

I thought I had read that someone who hacked her private emails had them up for sale, then the powers-that-be moved in and stopped that. I’m assuming they got the emails?

Whoever recovers these emails....and we that have computers, etc, know you don't just delete stuff and it disappears forever, should save them, keep their mouths shut about it and wait for the next administration to take office...

Example: Trump is POTUS, Gowdy is AG...hand them over and let them take care of miss shillary and all her emails and the ex muslim in chief, and eric holder, and lois lerner, and the rest of the corruption in ‘sewer city’....

Their server logs have a record of every email she ever sent and who she sent it to.

The recipients probably still have them.

His attorney instructed him to turn them over to the FBI. Something to the effect of selling known stolen property I would wager.

So they have all of her personal emails? I wonder why the worry about being able to retrieve them.

I suspect they may use this to persuade her to drop her run for the WH.

I keep thinking she's going to wearing orange soon, but I don't think in this current administration she will, but we can hope in the next one...can't we????

The Muslim Brotherhood and the Ayatollah would never turn them over hough. It would prove they were receiving classified information and intel.

Doesn't matter. The communists protection umbrella will make sure that Hillary is completely safe. The problem is most Americans are totally unaware of the power of the communists Democrats with their dictator King Obama.

Data is saved in one area, pointers to that data are stored. When you delete an email, or word doc. it deletes the pointer to the stored data. Data is still there, just no pointer.

It is unclear whether anyone has the authority to restore the emails, even if they could be restored.

We've already got one person claiming to have gotten copies of her emails from the server. If the server was compromised then it's probable it was also accessed by foreign governments and that information is also in their hands. In order to mitigate the damage that might do, we'll need to know exactly what they got.

Given Hillary's demonstrated inability (by her own admission) to recognize sensitive information without someone else having classified and tagged it before it got to her, we can't trust that there wasn't any in the emails she deleted. The only way to know is going to be to recover them.
