GOP senators would back Trump as Republican nominee
The Hill ^ | 9/14/2015 | Alexander Bolton

Republican senators, the heart of the GOP establishment, will support Donald Trump if he wins the nomination for president, even though they’re not thrilled at the prospect. Trump has become a headache for Republican leaders in Washington, who question his electability but won’t criticize him publicly because he’s popular with the base and they fear he may wage a third-party bid. Still, even GOP senators who have been at the wrong end of the Republican frontrunner’s barbs say they’ll back him if he becomes their nominee.

“It’s hard to predict because a lot of things happen between now and then but I certainly would support the nominee, no matter who it is,” said Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the 2008 GOP nominee whose war record and imprisonment in Vietnam was mocked over the summer by Trump.

“I can’t see myself saying a Democratic candidate would be better for the country,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Republicans for much of the summer have been more worried about whether Trump would back the party’s nominee. But as the business mogul’s lead in polls has grown higher, Republicans have had to ponder how they’ll handle the possibility of Trump winning the race. Even the most prudent senators say they would back him in the general election.

“I intend to,” said Sen. Rob Portman (R), who faces a tough re-election in Ohio, a swing state and presidential battleground. “I guess you could come up with some scenario where something crazy could happen but I think the country’s in trouble and I think if we don’t have new leadership and new policies, it’s hard to imagine it getting back on track.”

I guess they’re not THAT far gone that they wouldn’t support the nominee of their party.

The answers are ok but the real good news here is that they are actually asking the question.

Yes. They’re beginning to understand the level of disgust drive by America actually has for the collective GOP Senate under the leadership of Major McTurtle.

While it doesn’t bother me so much one way or the other about Trump and who gets the nomination IF HE/SHE is a conservative, the clear, clear imperative here is that Jeb Bush and any other quivering, quisling candidate that refuses to address illegal aliens and amnesty must be stopped at all costs.

The short fact of it is that we as a people have been sold a bill of goods by the Republican leadership. We gave them a clear mandate on a silver platter with historic margins over Democrats and the very first thing they did was stab us in the back and told us they were just scratching that itch it looked like we had.

of course they will back the nominee.

then they will develop containment plans

they will be unworkable containment plans if some of their own but more importantly, some democrats are replaced by those with a conservative or even more conservative agenda

it will be a new game

Will Trump back them or endorse an opponent? I know he like Sessions but expect he would back a McCain challenger.

I think the headline writer omitted the word stab between back and Trump.

Ahhh....Senator Portman of OH. He is the sly one. Intelligent, thoughtful guy, well educated, personable, responds to constituent concerns about issues. Club for Growth has ads vigorously support him. As soon as he got to DC, got the gay marriage support started, because "his gay sun convinced him".

What this statement tells me is that Trump must be on top in their internal OH polling.

They are afraid of Trump, he is leading the base, and they know it’s not the GOPee that is helping...

They know if the voters are this riled up, their jobs are going bye bye this next election....

They should be scared, I’m not voting for Hatch or Love in Utah...

Hatch has to run things here in Utah, and Mia Love said all these things, and gets back there and does the opposite....

Nope this time these Senators and House Representative know their necks are in the noose and we aren’t going to let them out....

America isn’t going to take it anymore, and neither are we Trump Supporters!!!

If Trump becomes President, McCain’s head will explode and demented John will at last be put in a padded cell.

Guarantee, or in Mississippian; Guarn-damn-tee that any support from John McCain will be offset by his behind the scenes backstabbing.
don’t trust him Donald. Please.

Except it’s the delegates...not the people who pick the nominee. So saying that right now....means little since they can change their mind.

It’s just the usual lip service to appease the base. Behind the scenes they will destroy any conservative, non-establishment nominee and help the Democrat.

The short fact of it is that we as a people have been sold a bill of goods by the Republican leadership

And by the insidious hucksters in the democrat party preaching "diversity".

Yes I certainly agree. But I think the thing we might be missing here is that we EXPECT that sort of thing from Democrats - It’s their way!

What we don’t expect is for our own forces to do us the same. Back stabbers, mostly. In a lot of ways, they are bigger enemies to us than Democrats.
