handcuffing was an overreaction, HOWEVER a quick look at the picture, it does look like it could be something dangerous. If they were not careful enough it could have been a real problem. Plus, his teacher told him that he shouldn’t have brought it to school. If that were the case, as well, why didn’t that teacher keep it locked up for him?
If a kid gets in trouble for taking a bite out of a pop tart to make it look like a gun, then this kid got what he deserved for flirting with the line of insanity.

The school didn’t appreciate his playing coy about the suspicious device he cobbled tother from an alarm clock.
And that’s what he did. He ripped up an alarm clock and put it in a new larger case. He didn’t “build a clock”.
