For a long time, Ben Carson’s campaign team feared that his habit of inflammatory remarks would sink his presidential hopes. They sent him to media training in Texas. The candidate pledged to police his words.
But ever since Mr. Carson remarked on Sept. 20 that he did not think a Muslim should be president, then refused to retract the statement amid a furious blowback, his campaign has watched grass-roots support grow and donations pour in — and advisers have backtracked, deciding, in the words of one, to “let Carson be Carson.”
Mr. Carson, a retired neurosurgeon seeking the Republican nomination, has seemed lately to be a candidate unbound. He has uttered a string of remarks on policy and national events, some divisive and some seemingly uninformed, that have led commentators on the right as well as on the left to question his fitness for the presidency.
And yet none of this has deterred elements of the Republican base, which in making 2015 the year of the political outsider see in Mr. Carson’s provocative comments a more palatable variation on the bombastic insults of Donald J. Trump. Both accuse critics of “political correctness.” Now Mr. Carson is edging up behind Mr. Trump in many polls, with Carly Fiorina, a third outsider candidate, close behind.
The three candidates’ collective lack of governing experience is not a disqualification in the eyes of supporters, and is instead seen as their chief asset, particularly as Republicans in the House descend into chaos and many in the party view President Obama as an abject failure.

Sadly, this lesson, as with the appeal of Trump’s plain truths, will be lost on the GOPe who views the truth as a threat.

Gentle Ben is by no means being “inflammatory”, he speaks from an acquired store of wisdom built up in his life, and quotes examples all the time.
There is a whole ethical construct out there that the liberals of NYT simply do not understand, as they have never had contact with it in their lifetimes. What they direct their ridicule at is some sort of construct of what they THINK constitutes their opposition, but it exists only inside their own heads.
The “Trump Effect” . . .
Define inflammatory. The NYT and liberals don’t find anything Planned Parenthood said in those videos as a problem, but think everything that comes out of a Republican’s mouth is hate-filled and shocking.
When one bases their ideals on lies, slander and hatred soon one is uncovered and their nakedness is disgusting to the soul.
Truth, especially God’s Truth is always “inflammatory” to NYT and liberals in general. For such Truth is “bigotry” and “hate speech”.

Well heaven forbid we should hear what a candidate actually thinks.
One has to wonder where these so-called advisors learned their trade. They’re apparently as out of touch with everyday Americans as Hillary Clinton.
I haven’t heard any inflammatory remarks from Dr. Carson. Just non-PC approved truth telling.

You know the country has gone to hell when liberal talk show hosts refer to an “affirmative action” lesbian with a Ph.D. in Angry Women’s Studies as “doctor” but refer to a retired brain surgeon as “mister”. What a load. I hate the “media” and the leftwing propagandists who infest it.
Inflammatory? Only to those all ready suffering from inflammation of the brain. Folks who view Mr. Carson’s statements that way need a good brain surgeon to help cure them of their inflammation. Dr. Carson could probably recommend one... lol
