McCain could have won. Especially after choosing Palin.

By 2012 the world had changed and Romney was a fossil and he is Mormon.

I quite agree, every four years the establishment from either party drives us farther away from our freedoms.

Trump is the only candidate who has policies that resonate with the people. Cruz does too, but is less electable than Trump (ref to polls).

The beltway boys are pure establishment and will never say anything that will not lead to an establishment candidate.

But this time, a non-establishment candidate is what is required.

McCain was a political untouchable.  It was over as soon as he had the delegates sewn up.  Until he named Palin, he had no chance whatsoever, but I still don't think she could do all the heavy lifting by herself, and he wasn't helping.

He would essentially sit there and let her rally Conservatives.  He'd go yeah unhuh "what she said" and that was about it.  And then he pulled the audacity of an endorsement of Obama out of his..., well..., where ever, and they were toast.

What does "electable" mean?

A person who proposes national policies publicly that the U. S. voter buys into from the start, or can be convinced to buy into based on the idea they are the best policies going forward.

One could add in the theory of "Fanboi" into the mix. This person would like the candidate based on personality vs policy. Some try to make the case this plays into Trump in a major way. The trouble is, Trump's policies are top notch.

Another factor plays into the "Fanboi" premise. Here it is. Do I really care what causes a person to back someone who supports my agenda? Ah... NO! Get the guy in and let him implement the Conservatives Agenda. If some "Fanboi" support enables that, I couldn't care freaking less.

How does one measure these things?

This is where your home grown poll team takes over.

You can determine what support and movement is taking place.

You can find out what members of other parties other than your own are thinking of your presentations, or at least if they are considering you or already buying in.

They can hone it down to individual policies and what the best way to present them is.

I believe at some point Trump may have to nicely explain why he thinks Carson is the wrong guy based on policy.

Knowing how people fix on one candidate and then turn off listening, I don’t know how effective that will be.

Polls could tell you.

Polls are a good tool, if used properly and not gamed for advantage.

A good polling firm can be a real asset.
