California girls fight to become Boy Scout members

They call their group "The Unicorns." The six young girls teach themselves things they didn't learn in the Girl Scouts, like building a campfire.

"I got jealous of what my brother got to do because he's a Boy Scout ...," said 10-year-old Ella Jacobs.

Jacobs and her friend, Allie Westover, decided they were more interested in what the boys were doing. So last fall, they started participating in activities alongside a local Boy Scout troop.

"I really like competitions and I really enjoy competitive nature and also working in teams and so being in Boy Scouts gave me the opportunity to work with boys and girls alike in a competitive nature," said Westover.

They got so good at competing with the boys, this past spring they won second place in a major scouting competition with other Boy Scouts groups.

1956 I joined girl scouts. Two meetings....worthless.

Already knew all that from my older brother who eventually became an eagle scout.

No Ella, you weren't jealous or upset until your parent(s) told you that you were, right after talking to their lawyer.

I understand. However, what is the logical course of action here? Begin the build up to a lawsuit based on sexual discrimination because boys get to do all the cool stuff, OR work to make the Girl Scouts to improve their curriculum?

not to worry, you just need to be 14 and then it will be ok and you can join

there is no sex discrimination, there is age restriction, like getting a drivers license of drinking beer

Yes but then the boys’ activities will have to be tapered down to accommodate the girls because they can’t keep up. Then more lawsuits and then the boy scouts will be no more.

The Girl Scouts has gone far left, from endorsing lesbianism to sexuality in middle school. However, you don’t have to join the Boy Scouts.

And that doesn’t include finding a Girl Scout troop that DOES do the outdoors stuff, which a few still do, but sitting around meditating for merit badges is less work.

“I got jealous of what my brother got to do because he’s a Boy Scout ...,”

Hopefully, Ella does not become jealous of certain anatomical parts that belong to her brother.

But, I think it’s too late...

I suspect their parents are simply looking for LAWSUITS, similar to what happened when we let women into combat roles - the first thing they did was sue everyone.

Obviously they have the option of Girl Scouts, but there’s no financial reward with that path.

If it was me doing opposition research on the lawsuit some adult is going to file on her behalf, I’d be doing research on whoever calls themselves her parent(s).

More bull crap from the feminist scum.

There are things boys and men should be allowed to have as their own.

Enough is enough The answer is NO!

I taught merit badges and was a troop guide for a couple summers on Catalina Island. The best time was when the Girl Scout boat docked in our harbor once a week. I can’t imagine how much trouble there’d be if it was boys and girls all the time.

The BSA also offers Explorers and High Adventure scouting that is co-educational.

Women seem determined to destroy everything!

God Damn busy bodies.

Then sue the GIRL SCOUTS for being ineffective with their charter and activities!

This is all about TEARING DOWN Boy Scouts, and nothing to do with her missing out on anything.

There are other options than changing the Boy Scouts if the local Girl Scout chapter isn’t providing what these girls are seeking:

1) YMCA sponsored Indian Guides and Indian Princesses
2) Campfire. Coed
3) Frontier Girls which tries to recreate the old Girl Scout programming. Teaches morality and patriotism in addition to skills.
4) American Heritage Girls. A Christian alternative to Girl Scouts.
5) Baden Powell Service Organization - Coed tradition scouting.
6) Parents get involved in the local Girl Scout Chapter and add the programming
7) Parents work with the children to form an organization that meets their needs which apparently they have done with the Unicorns.

In today’s narcissistic world people demand long established traditional organizations to change radically to accommodate their desires, instead of seeking out and finding organizations to join with the values and programming they desire. Here we have another instance of “all about me” children demanding their selfish desires be fulfilled with the help of their narcissistic parents. Likely if they got their way, they’d quickly get bored and move onto something else. The fact their momentary self indulgence had forever changed an organization with millions of members wouldn’t bother them in the least.

Strange that rather than fighting to reform the Girl Scouts these activists choose to destroy the Boy Scouts. Funny how that works.

I have no problem with the girls forming there own group and doing cub scout type activates. I do have a problem with the parents of these children forcing there way into what should be a male social club....anyone that knows a thing about little boys knows that given a the opportunity to name there group it probably would not of been named the unicorns it would of been something like the T-Rex or dragons.
