On Muslims, Democrats find an unlikely ally: George W Bush

Taunted by Republicans to declare war on "radical Islamic terrorism," Democrats are turning to an unlikely ally: George W. Bush.

President Barack Obama, under pressure to be more aggressive on terrorism, regularly cites his predecessor's refusal to demonize Muslims or play into the notion of a clash between Islam and the West. It's a striking endorsement from a president whose political rise was predicated on opposition to the Iraq war and Bush's hawkish approach in the Middle East

Obama and Clinton have attacked Bush both during his presidency and after his presidency.

Now they are trying to use him as a stooge to attack Trump and Cruz.

If Bush goes along with this dishonest scheme then Jeb is toast. Bush needs to save what little credibility he has left and really lay into Obama and Clinton. But that might be too much for W.

Just remember, when you say “Religion of Peace” mockingly, you can thank W for it.

W is a Globalist/Elitist.

Globalists/Elitists are finding Muslims useful to deconstruct nations.

I am sorry I ever backed him.

I’ve been saying for a decade that Dubya set us back 25 years in properly addressing the threat of Islam with his “religion of peace” Bravo Sierra.

Does anyone want to start a pool predicting when and where the first bomb to hit our shores will be?

I’ve thought a LOT about him recently and where we are now and it has simultaneously made me question my own decision in backing him AND understand just how and what he did in his 8 years to us. He is in large part responsible for Obama, and even worse, he gave Obama the tools to put us on a path of devolution like no other.

I think much of what he accomplished was hidden under the calamity surrounding 9/11 and its aftermath. We got the DHS and TSA from him. We got an NSA, a Patriot Act on steroids, the FISA (never saw a warrant they wouldn’t rubber stamp) and an economy ABANDONED to the likes of Democrats and spendthrift establishment Republicans.

One point I vividly remember back in the 2004 election debates. I think it was W’s first debate. All he really could do is stand up there on stage and shrug his shoulders and say something like “...being President is hard...it’s haarrrdd”. It seemed like that to me anyway and I winced at it. But, I let my prior support for him get the better of me and I carried on.

I should have listened to my gut.

The Bush family and the eGOP betrayed their country to the Saudis, and on Jebs watch in Florida Saudis went into flight training to prepare for 9/11, with Florida State Police investigations then undeerway on the Saudi terrorists who were allowed to stay lest the Saudis become "offended.", all of which Jeb hid from the public aftermnath of 9/11. Jeb will never be president of the USA.

Trump knows how to work with the Saudis and will never give them the upper hand ever again. No more US obesience to OPEC!

My line of thinking is very similar to yours.

Hind site being 20 20, I’m sorry I support pres Bush, sorry I voted for Mitt, and am totally convinced Jeb is a slimy scumbag.

So it’s been left to me to remind all of Al Gore and John F. Kerry as suitable alternatives?

Lets just say I wouldn’t want to be in San Diego. The team that took down OBL and the American Sniper all hailed from Coronado, just outside of SD.

Since Reagan we have not had Republican President, and we have had but a handful of Republicans at any given time in Congress.

It is time to cull the RINO herd, with the goal of rapid extinction.

Why would anyone say that Bush is an “unlikely” ally? He’s very “likely” to support liberals in many ways. I’m embarrassed that I was pro-Bush during his primaries. How disappointing the Bush family has been, and how destructive to America.

I have been sorry I backed him since 2007

Some people say Trump is rough around the edges...

....but Bush gave us this ‘aw shucks’ loveable schmuck song and dance, and many of us believed it.
Until he betrayed us with both barrels blazing.

I’m going with ‘rough around the edges’ this time!

You’re not reminding anything us, frankly. Just because we now understand how W was not what he imbued in him because of 9/11 and its aftermath it isn’t an automatic declaration of support for the alternatives you bring up.

In 2006, this man worked with the Gang of Eight in the Senate and almost gave us the amnesty we’ve been fighting for the last 7 years with Obama. And, that doesn’t even include the TSA, DHS, NSA’s misuse of the Patriot Act and the FISA court, or the rampant spending, rules and regulations heaped on our economy for the sake of liberal wet dreams like targeted home loans, Prescription Medicare and a host of other programs.

The key point in understanding just how bad W was forms a much better foundation from which to keep the same kind of elites (like Jeb) from ever getting control over us again.

Lazamataz: "I am sorry I ever backed him."

Gaffer: "I should have listened to my gut."

redfreedom: "I'm sorry I support pres Bush, sorry I voted for Mitt..."

Does so: "So it's been left to me to remind all of Al Gore and John F. Kerry as suitable alternatives?"

It seems our FRiends redfreedom, Gaffer and Lazamataz are all suffering from terminal Alzheimer's -- they've totally forgotten what were the real choices "way back when".
Do any of you fools remember that the number one alternative to GW Bush in 2000 was, yes, wait for it: John McCain?

Come on people, self flagellation is most unbecoming, especially so when done in support of a false narrative.

GW Bush ran as a "compassionate conservative", and everybody wondered, "what does that word 'compassionate' mean"?
Well, now we know, it means liberal-progressive.
But at the time, it seemed like he was saying "kinder gentler conservative", same as GHW.
And who were his Republican rivals?

  1. John McCain
  2. Alan Keyes
  3. Steve Forbes
  4. Gary Bauer
  5. Orin Hatch
  6. Elizabeth Dole
  7. Pat Buchanan
  8. Lamar Alexander
  9. Bob Smith
  10. John Kasich
  11. Herman Cain

So, which of those would you today chose over GW Bush, with even a smidgen of hope for winning in November 2000?

Don't cry over spilt milk.
Today we do have some seriously conservative candidates, and one great bull in the china shop.
My question is: which of our conservatives can hop on the bull's back and ride him to victory in November?

Think about it.
