Leading Republican presidential candidates are condemning the armed takeover of a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon and distancing themselves from the gunmen.
Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson all took to the campaign trail on Monday to denounce the gunmen.
Cruz was the most forceful, calling on the activists to âstand down.â âEvery one of us has a constitutional right to protest, to speak our minds,â Cruz said in Iowa, according to NBC News.
âBut we don't have a constitutional right to use force and violence and to threaten force and violence on others,â he said. âAnd so it is our hope that the protesters there will stand down peaceably, that there will not be a violent confrontation.â

I’m sorry to see Ted Cruz mouth off without understanding the situation.
He needs to buy a clue.
The people at the wildlife refuge just surrendered to law enforcement.
“The people at the wildlife refuge just surrendered to law enforcement.”
Time flies!
It seems that it was just yesterday that the Bundy Group was saying that they could hold out in the wildlife refuge for years.
The years go by so fast.
I was wondering why they didn’t have to go to work to continue to be the makers that they likely are....
I’m glad these guys stood down without blood shed. The ranchers on whose behalf they supposedly were protesting did not agree with their actions.
Good. As they should. These people are criminals occupying federal property and should be treated as such.
Nice to hear Cruz leading the voice of reason.
Calling yourself a Patriot doesn’t make you one. Saying “read the Constitution” doesn’t mean you know anything about it.
The situation has ended without bloodshed. These protester did not have the support of the ranchers they supposedly were representing, nor did they have the backing of militia groups in the area.
There are plenty of similar stories out there apparently.
I used to think that I wanted to buy a place that backed up to a NF. Now? Not so much.
Yep, time waits for no one.
The North Western states have become dominated by tree hugging, activist environmentalists.
BTW, our farm adjoins a federal wetlands. You wouldn’t believe the regulations.
I was thinking the same thing.
You’re right.
Bravo, Senator Cruz!Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Fla.) and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson all took to the campaign trail on Monday to denounce the gunmen. I read where the Hammonds turned themselves in to the Feds. Have not read the Bundy group have turned themselves in. Not seeing that reported yet.
PC at all cost. Why not just STFU about it and let it die a natural death. I am in disagreement with the group holed up out in the refuge but its not like these guys give a rats azz about the western rancher.
Where was Ted Cruz and Ben Carson during the Bundy ranch standoff? Why wasnt Ted Cruz Mr. Constitutional lawyer yelling about the Hammond’s getting railroaded in court?
Give me a break!
AFAIK only the Hammonds have turned themselves in, as you say. I can’t find anything on the Bundys either.
