At a campaign event for Donald J. Trump in Mississippi last weekend, Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson — two African-American YouTube stars who go by the names Diamond and Silk — rallied the roaring crowd with a plea. “Ditch and switch! Ditch and switch!†they yelled.
The pitch was directed at Democrats and independents in the audience, urging them to become Republicans and vote for Mr. Trump if they really want to show their support.
It could be an important strategy for Mr. Trump as the pace of primary season picks up, and he looks to turn his raucous campaign events into voters, delegates and ultimately the Republican nomination. To accomplish that, Mr. Trump will be relying on people who do not tend to vote and trying to persuade some Democrats and independents to change parties so that they can vote in states that allow only registered Republicans to participate.
Ms. Hardaway and Ms. Richardson are former Democrats who became supporters of Mr. Trump and jumped to the Republican Party in North Carolina in September. While they are not formally affiliated with the campaign or paid by it, they have been urging other supporters of Mr. Trump to follow suit on social media and at rallies. They have even created a “ditch and switch†website explaining to voters which states are closed primaries and when the deadlines are for changing party affiliations.
“Donald Trump is going to have Democrats switching in droves to vote for him,†Ms. Hardaway said in an interview. “He’s going to be the only candidate to be able to pull independents and Democrats to vote for him in the primaries and the general election.â€

I don’t think they’ll have to work too hard. People don’t like Hitlery.
The key is whether they stay after the primary.
Most modern democrats are a devious bunch, whose devotion to their party supersedes all else. They’ll happily cross over and vote for the GOP candidate whose nomination they perceive will more easily clear the path for their nominee.
Now, now... you know it's all because their god Obama has been blocked by those eeeevillll conservatives from bestowing all his abundant goodness throughout the land. It's all because they're "waysis!" (/sarc too obvious to include)
I am probably being a tad cynical (HA) but I read this as something of a ‘slam’ towards Trump.
Unless HE writes it, it usually ends up being a slam against Trump.
That said....
Isn’t the whole idea of campaigning to ‘win over the ‘other’ side’?
These fools spend billions on a campaign include basically throwing out ANYONE that vaguely disagrees with the candidate.
The money (IMNSHO) should be put to use getting (or buying if that makes you feel better) people to vote for YOU.
All these modern day campaigns are turning into ‘love fests’ for the candidate and hurling insults at each other, when the actual job should be to convey what YOU are going to do, NOT what your opponent isn’t going to do.
I still maintain the way to campaign finance ‘reform’ is to only allow contributions from people who are going to be directly affected by the person running...
A mayor of Bum Fleck Iowa should not be receiving campaign donations from China, Missouri, Illinois etc etc etc.
If the guy says I may live in the county surrounding the city so I should get to vote because my office is there, tough - move into the city.
In other words, if you aren’t ‘able’ to run for the office itself, you shouldn’t be able to give money to the campaign.
Naturally age and eligibility to vote would not be a factor, just the geographic faction.

I’m wondering how many people would change their voter registration from Dem to Rep, and how many Indept would actually register Rep just to vote for Trump.
Also, some primaries are set up for either one or the other party ballot, so Dems that vote for Trump wouldn’t be able to vote in the Dem primary. Texas is set up this way, but prior party registration isn’t required. This would affect local/state primary contests.
I keep saying it. The RNC should absolutely support these efforts and develop a strategy to get these voters to pull the "R" lever downballot.
I hold no malice towards democrats who see the light and switch parties. My extended family includes many of these, and they vote R all the way down the ballot.

This is one thing, among many, that Trump is accomplishing. He’s managed to brush off the MSM and get through to people who’ve traditionally voted Democrat or just haven’t voted at all.
MSNBC, etc., might come to regret all their free Trump coverage. The people in charge can’t imagine Trump (or any GOP candidate) making sense to anyone at all, but many of their viewers could be concluding that Trump is making a lot of sense.
And if Cruz or Rubio or Christie eventually win the nomination, Trump will have done them a favor by getting so many former Dems to question their allegiance to a party that continues to take them for granted.
Just because many people registered as Democrats have been fooled by the promises of free stuff doesn't necessarily mean that they buy into the rest of the loony left agenda. I think many have finally begun to feel alienated by things like "gay marriage", PC speech codes, and environmental insanity and are now looking for someone to "make America great again." I also think that most people in this country secretly hate political correctness, and they are flocking to Trump because finally there is someone fearless enough to mock liberal orthodoxy. He has bashed in the door and frankly the rest of us should follow that lead by ridiculing PC nuttiness at every level. It's always been a philosophy that couldn't stand the light of day and that persisted only through intimidation.
Every time the GOPe has served up another milquetoast candidate, their justification has been that "we need to nominate the most electable candidate." I have been a Cruz supporter from the start, but I think Trump might just be that "electable candidate" and I am enjoying watching the establishment go up in flames while it tries to figure out what to do with him.
