The opposition laid claim to a big majority in the National Assembly, which could empower it to force out Maduro. He has rejected the assembly as illegal and formed a new hardline leftist cabinet to fight it, in a deepening political crisis.

The opposition MUD coalition won a majority in the assembly for the first time in nearly 17 years at elections on December 6.

The MUD has vowed to find a way within six months to get rid of Maduro by constitutional means. But Maduro’s side vowed to block it by suing, withholding funding and refusing to publish its legislation.

IOW, elections are meaningless. As predicted the military will determine the outcome of the election.

This will come down to who's side has the most guns and bullets.

Watch for more oil platforms and/or distribution centers to burn.

I’m surprised nobody has asked Bernie Sanders why his fellow socialists in Venezuela are doing this.

I think Obama is studying Maduro for tacks-in-the-rearview-mirror tactics he can use next November.

IOW, when Zero, Pelosi, and Hitlery et al get the chance, they'll back the army and dictator, for the sake of "stability". Y'know the same way they opposed the removal of the dictator of Honduras back in 2009 or so. Thanks C19fan.

Maduro may only have the support of the officer class.

Despite Defense Chief General Vladimir Padrino’s vow that the military will support Manuro, the current situation could well become a political and constitutional fur ball. Thus Manuro may be hard put to find widespread military support.

Nealy two years ago retired General Angel Rivas took M-16 in hand at his residence to resist arrest for allegedly sabotaging Manuroista goons attacking citizens with motorcycles.

Since the coming of Hugo Chavez, General Rivas has been an outspoken opponent of ever increasing Cuban influence in Venezuela. Finally, he was forced into retirement.

Since then he played an active role in organizing the Anti-Castro-Communist Venezuelan Resistance. In the event of push going to shove, question becomes how much influence does General Rivas have with thee professional officer and NCO corps. And how much does the officer corps respect their Constitution.

Currently political tensions center on the elected opposition party maintaining their majority amid accusations of voter fraud and secondly, accomplishing their agenda without violence from the Manuroistas. The latter will all but legislate the Bolivarian Revolution and Manuro out of existence.

On the side, the newly elected majority opposition party removed paintings of Simón Bolívar and Hugo from the senate chamber. Hugo for obvious reasons. The painting of Simón Bolívar is allegedly a propaganda piece for the h to one which Hugo commissioned and for some reason portrays El Libertador as a much older man. Citizens want a previous and historically accurate painting restored.
