With only weeks until the starting gun sounds off in Iowa, it's time to face some hard truths. In particular, the truth we've all denied for months as we chanted, "Trump can't win" into the wind like a mantra. I've spent most of that time believing there is no possibility of a Trump nomination. And now, nearly eight months after he fumbled onto the scene with a 45-minute improv session in front of reporters, it's time to come to terms with reality. Trump could be the Republican nominee for president. And his alternative could be much worse.
Professionals all over the country whose job it is to predict this sort of thing are still crunching the numbers, clinging to the idea that he couldn't possibly win. For them, a Trump victory would come with the same out-of-body sensation that accompanies the experience of being held at gunpoint. The sort of thing that leaves you numb and thinking, "This can't be real. This only happens to other people." Last week Vox's chief-editor Ezra Klein suggested that "Trump could just ... not win" and even he wasn't entirely convinced by that argument. But this seems to be the best anyone can hope for after watching Trump maintain a double-digit lead in the national polls for months. Although, these numbers rarely predict victory in the early voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire, where Trump will need a win to solidify his lead. In fact, many candidates who have lead nationally in the past have lost in the early states. Despite this, Trump has proven to be the candidate who defies all natural wisdom and is leading in all of the early states as well - with the exception of Iowa, where he is in a virtual tie with Texas Senator Ted Cruz....

Not a perfect conservative? Fine. Not a veteran? Okay. Loves America? Damn STRAIGHT!
I’m an ABC voter, have always been.
ABC -—> ANYBODY BUT CLINTON.
The establishment backs Trump over Cruz because they know that Trump will provide the least disruption to their positions of power.
I never thought I would see a situation where we could with up with a worse mess than Obama has wrought. Oh well.
In before the surging TDS FReaks!
Rats. :(
That which terrifies liberals makes me smile.
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
For me, the election is 100% globalism vs nationalism. We can fight for purity after we save the very concept of simply HAVING an intact nation.
All candidates besides Trump are globalist party members.
GOP establishment is terrified of a hostile takeover of the party.
And they’re looking at a tsunami that could sweep them out in November.
In Trump/Cruz, the perfect storm is brewing.
Too many voters won’t embrace a Conservative because the GOPe has destroyed the brand. To many voters it means “someone in the pocket of the wealthy who is going to give the Chamber of Commerce everything on their wish list, whether it’s good for the country or not”.
Trump, as a right-leaning Populist, can overcome this.
Sadly we don’t have time to re-educate enough voters on why Cruz is an excellent choice.
In before Cruz and Trump supporters start calling each other stupid and childish names. oh wait....
Maybe we could stick to civil discourse and facts on this thread? Or maybe we could emulate Democratic Underground instead....
It's never good to have an opinion about facts, and pass it off as undisputed truth. I learned that in college debate.
What makes you say that Cruz is a Globalist?
You want me to believe that the global businessman who has been engaged in crony capitalism for many years is a nationalist while everyone else is a globalist including the lawyer and statesman who has repeatedly frustrated the globalist forces in our government. Sorry, not buying.
The anti-Trump forces are getting desperate. I was just told on another thread that my support for Trump is the same as if I was supporting Stalin.
It looks to me like the fireworks are just getting started and that it’s going to be a very exciting year.
Fixed it....sums up the trumpeters quite nicely.
I think they’re going to rig the primaries so Trump wins no early states despite how many votes he actually gets. Surprise! Rubio will win in NH and Cruz in SC. There will be no clear winner...all set up to give us Bush in a brokered convention.
Throw in the fact that he will probably be running against Clinton and it's a no brain issue.
The guy who took a million dollar loan from Goldman Sachs to start his political career and voted for Obamatrade? Yeah, he'll really shake up the Wall Street/DC cartel.
How would they go about rigging two or three states?
