BURLINGTON, Vt. (WXYZ) - Democratic presidential candidate and New York Sen. Bernie Sanders is calling for the resignation of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder over his handling of the Flint water crisis.

"There are no excuses. The governor long ago knew about the lead in Flint's water. He did nothing," Sanders said in a release. "As a result, hundreds of children were poisoned. Thousands may have been exposed to potential brain damage from lead. Gov. Snyder should resign."

The tap water in Flint, population 99,000, became contaminated after the city in 2014 switched its water supply to the Flint River while a pipeline to Lake Huron is under construction. The corrosive water lacked adequate treatment and caused lead to leach from old pipes in homes, schools and elsewhere.

Not to promote anything Bernie says....but I saw some pictures of the water. It’s truly disgusting. IMO, someone SHOULD be held responsible. But who?

Poor Bernie...he was one of the ones who failed to heed the warnings about the brown acid at Woodstock.

I added AquaMag to the treatment schedule at the plant I operated for 30 years to neutralize the Ph. Our problem with Iron. Actually the problem was slightly acidic water. Neutralize it, and leaching problems end. It also slightly coats anything it comes into contact with, mains, tanks all piping. Also makes vales work better. Good stuff!

Yeah, the engineering/chemistry is well settled. I put the blame on the water treatment folks and the local Political Structure.

You are correct in your assessment. I would also add the MDEQ because if they were practicing due diligence (their reason for existence) the Flint disaster might have been avoided.

I don’t recall Sanders demanding Obama’s resignation when his incompetent EPA caused an enormous toxic spill into rivers out West.

Yet this clown condemns a state governor for the actions of a local waterworks. This pathetic opportunist is the best candidate the Democrats have?

The amount of lead released to the environment has been incrementally reduced for several decades. I would like to know how the Flint exposures compare to typical “safe” levels in the 20th century. Perhaps along the way we’ll discover bernie is suffering from lead deficiency.

” I put the blame on the water treatment folks and the local Political Structure.”

Abdo-lutely! How big is the Flint system? Connections?
And don’t forget pets drink a lot of water too. I always told people to let the water run for 30 seconds before filling their pet’s bowl. Most of the lead found in a home’s water today comes from fixtures, not really the water. Lead free solder for a long time. I had a guy cause me a lot of trouble with very high lead. He had re-plumbed his basement using his dad’s solder from the 1940s. All his neighbors? No lead or copper. His house? Over the moon. And the epa shat on me nonstop until I took them a sample of the solder! They’re butt warts!

If the governor knew he should not only resign but should be put on trial along with everyone else in a role of decision making who knew and did nothing.

I don’t know who knew and who didn’t but what happened in flint is Criminal and regardless of party affiliations folks need to be held accountable.

Flint began to have its problems at the very same time the democrats took over. That happened in the late 60s early 70s. The first democrat mayor of Flint went to prison for graft. Since then they have all gamed the system and made high-paying, no-work jobs for their pals.

Before that time Flint had all Republican leadership.

Bernie and Michael Moore are boils on the butt of life.
