Ted Cruz and the Definition of Insanity
American Thinker ^ | January 21, 2016 | Peggy Ryan

Ted Cruz is closing in on Donald Trump in Iowa, leading in some polls.  His rise in Iowa may bring cheers from his supporters, but it strikes fear in my heart.

Don't get me wrong – I love Cruz.  He's my second choice for the nomination.  If anything happens to Trump's lead, Cruz is my guy.  No, the point of this article is that for conservatives, there is no second choice in this election.

Only one guy has taken on the GOP establishment and entire media conglomerate and won.  Trump has changed the race, pushed the opposition aside, stampeded the media, and brought the people back into the process.  How is he able to do this?

<snip>

How Trump bypasses establishment's media

From his announcement forward, Trump has projected an air of incumbency, more a sitting president seeking a second term than a political neophyte.  He's an über-successful businessman, author, and entertainer.  His celebrity persona comes with a few perks of its own: (1) a working mic the left can't turn off; (2) a direct line to the people, aka his fans; and (3) an established social media presence with over 10 million combined followers.

Using his personal media access, Trump has created an off-line audience of passionate, enthusiastic supporters who ignore the mainstream media with their aging talking heads.  This audience strains past traditional press to hear from the candidate himself, Donald Trump, in his own words.

This brings me to Ted Cruz. Cruz is great, a real conservative, a man of character, brilliant, and not afraid to fight for conservatism. If anything ever does bring Trump down, it will be Cruz I want in the wings. Sadly, it won't matter if Cruz is in the wings, because if Trump's gone, the revolution is over.

Beginning to think with all the baby killing, throwing God out of schools, porn etc. we don’t deserve a Godly president.
Maybe an arrogant SOB is what we deserve.
It’s what we’ve had for 7+ years and we’re used to it now.
A man that would bow before his creator is too good for us.

Besides what was noted in the article, the reasons below are what is hammering the GOPe and its slugs posing as candidates:

Imagine giving this advice to a Republican presidential candidate: What if you stopped calling yourself a conservative and instead just promised to make America great again?

What if you dropped all this leftover 19th-century piety about the free market and promised to fight the elites who were selling out American jobs?

What if you just stopped talking about reforming Medicare and Social Security and instead said that the elites were failing to deliver better healthcare at a reasonable price?

What if, instead of vainly talking about restoring the place of religion in society something that appeals only to a narrow slice of Middle America. You simply promised to restore the Middle American core, the economic and cultural losers of globalization to their rightful place in America?

What if you said you would re store them as the chief clients of the American state under your watch, being mindful of their interests when regulating the economy or negotiating trade deals?

Ted Cruz is closing in on Donald Trump in Iowa,...

Nope: Ted has been leading in Iowa, and that seems to be changing.

False narrative. Misrepresentation...

A misstatement of fact is a bad way to start an article. Cruz was slightly ahead in Iowa for about a month, and that lead has reversed in the latest polls. He's not "closing in" on Trump.

I mostly agree with this piece. If Trump is defeated, so is the movement.

Maybe before we elect a pastor, we should elect a LEADER who will actually stop the things that are killing the country.

If Trump is defeated, so is the movement.

Which movement? The one to eviscerate the republican party forever?

You know here in the states, religion is a very very personal thing. A person can be Christian and not know the bible verbatim. There is know way you can know what’s in a mans heart, no matter what he says or acts in public. Judging a man by his actions is what we should be doing, not how often he goes to church or how much scripture he can spout off. I can see how Trump treats all that are around him and he seems like a pretty stand up guy.

Absurd.

First, Trump has certainly become the choice of the establishment. The worst anti-conservative trolls — Dole, Hatch, McConnell — have all jumped on his bandwagon. And the reason is plain: Trump supports touchback amnesty, is soft on abortion, supports gay marriage, tax-and-spend liberalism, universal (mandatory) health insurance, and so on.

Second, the revolution pre-existed Trump, and will survive the public’s realization that he’s a charlatain.

Dangas, please try to think outside the box for a moment.

Trump wants immigration reform. Dole and Hatch were so pissed off at Buchanan for trying to address it they bought into the smear that Buchanan was the next Hitler. Those two think the Tea Party is a conspiracy.

Do you REALLY think they want Trump?

They are trying to reinforce the exact thinking you’ve come up with. You now think he’s establishment driven. That couldn’t be more wrong.

Dole and Hatch are GOPe. The GOPe has been trying everything possible to knock Trump off for months on end.

Now you think they WANT him?

No

Yes, I do.

Trump says he wants far more immigrants. And he wants to give illegal immigrants “expedited” green cards. Why bother deporting them?

Hatch is a mealy-mouthed, snivelling sissy boy. Trump is a brash, loud-mouthed boar. But they agree lock-step on the issues:

“Those damned pro-lifers screw up our chances with the East-coast suburbanites.”
“Wages are too high.” (Only Trump was brash enough to admit this was his goal.)
“We need more immigrants”
“Cruz hurt the party by standing up for conservative values.”
“We need to work with the Democrats.”
