GOP establishment warms to Trump — and remains cool toward Cruz
The Washington Post ^ | 1/21/2016 | Robert Costa, Philip Rucker and David A. Fahrenthold

In the past few days, Trump has received unlikely public praise from GOP luminaries who said they would prefer him to his main rival, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas.

In private, some veteran conservative Republicans have been reaching out to Trump. And Trump himself called the ultimate establishment figure in Washington, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, for a talk late last year.

I wish I could say this would make a difference, but we're dealing with a cult of personality here, not unlike the Obama zombies in '08.. By the way, Trump also supported Mitch McConnell in his reelection campaign against Matt Bevin.

“HOPE & CHANGE” will cut deals with the Washington Cartel. Same as it ever was.

Shocker!!!

They know Trump will sign all the great “deals” McConnell and Schumer scheme up.......

Conservatism is dead if Cruz is not the nominee.

They are conceding defeat and now trying to befriend the winner. After the recent polls on Iowa Cruz no longer has a remote chance. Those didn’t even reflect Palin’s endorsement or the popular governors attack on Cruz.

Sorry, the cult of personality is with Cruz’s supporters. Goldman Sachs sleazy crony capitalism = conservative family values? Hardly. Campaigning and casting U. S. Senate votes for Barack Obama’s legacy trade agenda = Principled Conservatism (TM)? Hardly.

The difference between Trump and Cruz supporters is that Trump supporters do not believe their candidate walks on water. There is no ideal conservative candidate in this election. Choose your candidate but just don’t think their are not other candidates on their level.

Why wouldn’t the estabs support him? On balance, he’s one of their own.

Not sure the establishment is warming to Trump. National Review came out against him in a big way.

Says the person with the tagline “Trumpforce1 lifting off”...yes no cult of personality there.

You nailed it. 4 more years of a cult of personality. If he wins will people scream “ I won’t have to pay my mortgage any more”
But don’t worry. Everything’s going to be GREAT. His first act will be to issue an “Everything is Great” executive order.

You have that quite backwards... there are several Trump supporters who claim he is directly sent by God Himself. The adoration of Trump is far, far closer to personality worship than anything generated by Cruz.

I fully expect Trump to drop the Palin endorsement around convention time to get the GOP establishment on his side.

As he doesn’t believe a word he says and his positions are malleable, he can change his attitude to the GOP literally overnight.

We should be nominating a principled conservative like Cruz, but sadly, many conservatives are bewitched by the siren song of populism.

Like every one else, they see in Trump what they want to see.

Trump is drawing support from roughly 1/3 of people across the board. Cruz is getting all his support from one demographic: self identified conservatives. If there is a cult of personality it is with Cruz’s single issue social conservatism voters.

But really no point in tearing down the supporters of the other candidate. Support who you want. This is a primary. Let’s get the best candidate we can to beat Hillary. If Cruz can’t beat a political novice like Trump he’ll never beat the Hillary/MSM machine. May the best man win

Goldman Sachs sleazy crony capitalism?

Lol, taking an automatic margin loan ( I.e. Borrowing back your own money, no loan committee ) is crony capitalism?

The stupidity of the zombies is stunning.

I guess I owe Scottrade favors since I have a margin loan with them.

But if the cult leader says it, it must be true!

And if, after the GOPe trashed him for 5 months, it was Cruz, after kicking their rears for the same amount of time, was the ones they were “warming to”, you guys would be proclaiming that they were admitting defeat and FINALLY turning the keys over to a “real leader”.

But since it isn’t your guy....well its OBVIOUS that Trump was always an insider?

Ok...sure.

If they were warming to Cruz because he started supporting crony ethanol, I would denounce him and no longer support him.

What’s your excuse with Trump?

Sorry, demographics don’t bear that out. Trump is drawing support across the board based on a number of issues. Trade, Immigration, patriotism, etc.

Cruz is running a focused message of social conservatism at one demographic.

Given that, it shouldn’t be a surprise why one candidate is at 30% and the other is at 10% in national polls.
